A pondering...

*warning "hippy Megan" alert*

I am sitting at home listening to the wind howling outside and it has got me thinking about something that has been bouncing about my head for a while now...

As I walk about Glasgow (or anywhere for that matter) as I tend to do now rather than use my car I watch all the other people walking by.  Nowadays there are a huge ( Read more... )

Wow... Deep man...

And oddly I have reverted to using mine more and more... mainly at night with some Henry Rollins spoken word to scrub out the noise of the neds from the flat above me :)

... stop being patronising ;-) "deep man" indeed...

It has to be said - if I was in your flat I would be permanently using headphones. What do they do up there?!

Can't agree more. Even though my walk to work doesn't really pass anything like a river, I still prefer to hear the sounds of the world.

There is heaps to hear about your place mostly because of the trees. The lake nearby would bring even more birds to the area. Plus the ghost that is/was in your house.

Your place rocks.

Got your Christmas card! Thanks!

In complete agreement.
Ambient sounds are better, even for music, can't bare that 'piped direct to the ear' music.
It also feels like a very isolationist thing to do, which is fine if you want to send a 'back off and leave me alone signal' *all* the time. Despite the fact that we all like our space now and again, being that closed off to the outside world, sounds and all, on a regular basis can't be good :)
And when you say 'hippy'... surely you mean 'pixie'...?

you have to push it don't you... you just havd to get a pixie comment in there... you just won't let it lie...

That said - if you had not made some sort of dig from this post I would be wondering if something was wrong ;-)

Did you get my email?

What...!? I'm just saying...! :)
It's a compliment... Pixies being all small, cute and ehtereal, all mother earth and stuff, dainty little creatures that flit through our lives on gossamar wings, bringing light and happiness wherever they touch, sprinkling their maigic pixie dust as they go...
Too much...?
I haven't been home for home addy mail for couple of days, but am home tonight. If it's urgent you can (presumably) PM me via LJ (?).
Hang on... I think I can get home addy mai via the web... if I can I will! :)

I prefer not to use headphones if I can - I hate not being able to hear what's going on around me!! :)

Also people rarely look up.

We have taught ray to look up at buildings and see all the interesting features and architecture that most others miss.

That is also so true. I thought of adding that to the hippy rant but decided to keep it focused ;-)

You miss so much - especially in cities if you walk along, head down, hands in pockets... Glasgow is a prime example of that. The city really is beautiful - from the second storey up!

We were watching the BBC "Wind in the Willows" over christmas and there was the bit when Toad was hanging over the door as Ratty leaves and Rachael said "Oh he'll see him!" and I reminded her that no one ever looks up, and sure enough ratty trots off down the road blissfully unaware Toad has escaped.
