Week 5(part 2) and 6 reading

It is dinky...so very very dinky...only 2 on the novel front and 2 on the manga front.

(28) An Invitation to Sin by Suzanne Enoch was fun, but I got the feeling that she's started focusing more on her contemporay series, which makes me sad because, while I like those, her best books were when she was just writing Regency Historicals, which actually tends to be the norm when romance writers get bigger =and/or cross over into other genres.

(29) Raven’s Shadow by Patricia Briggs:  Decided to check out her earlier books because I like the Mercy Thompson books, but if this one is any indication, I'll like these better.  This one is high fantasy and loosely based on medieval europe.  The first bit involves a young soldier returning home from war and rescuing a young Traveller girl(loose equivalent of a gypsy) and later marrying her to protect her.  It cuts to twenty years later after that when he's abducted and made to look dead, and she sets off with their two teenaged sons to find him, while he works on rescuing himself.  I like the approach to magic here, closer to old theories and less flash, and I like that it's about 2 people who've been married for twenty years and have absolute faith in each other(when she finds him, there's a woman in his room and she knows that he's behaved himself and he knows she knows...of course, the sons have to be convinced, but he's never even tempted...knows she'll rip his guts out-his words-if he even thinks it) instead of people who've just met, or are in the "we're partners but we won't get together yet so the fans will have something to look forward to"(not that I have a problem with either type)

(30) Samurai Deeper Kyo Vol 21 by Akimine Kamijyo: The current arc, I think, is starting to draw to a close.  First part was Shinrei vs Kyo, but the more interesting part was Shinrei vs Hotaru, who I think pushed his way to second place in terms of favrites in this volume, possibly first. , especialy with his introduction line in the book as he less than kindly gave his personal identifications for the various cast members.  Other reasons for why Hotaru-love increased would qualify as spoilers.

(31) D.Gray-Man Vol 4 by Katsura Hoshino: This one hasn't yet become a manga that I obsess over, but I like it quite a bit, and a little more each volume.  I don't like Lavi quite as much as I do Kanda, but with too much exposure to each other, Kanda is very likely to kill poor Allen.  I do think Lavi is probably the most interesting character in the series, but I'm getting annoyed with the somewhat pathetic seeming exorcists Allen keeps coming across...what, the cool, sane, non-pathetic ones have already joined up and the countryside is still littered with the loser ones?  Still, this one is less annoying than the last(she was amusing,  but made me want to wrap Allen in a protective cocoon to protect her from the crazy) and has potential, and it's only 2, but it's 2 storylines about that in a row.

manga, manga/anime: samurai deeper kyo, manga: d.gray-man, books
