1. Does anyone here watch Devious Maids or am I all alone in that one? I binged on the entire second season over the weekend, and realized I didn't have anyone to talk about it with. They did a Rebecca plot and everything this season. The cliffhanger just was not OK, though.

2. I'm watching season 2 of Orphan Black and very, very over the ( Read more... )

2. I feel like the beginning of OB Season 2 was weak compared to Season 1, but then it went back to being great. Though the reproductive focus definitely stays.

Oooh, I just finished the latest October Daye novel and am happy to see that someone else is reading it too. I'd be happy to discuss it with you if you need to talk to someone about it. As for your remark, I'm not sure how I feel. On the one hand, I thought it was possible that the story was actually going to go there, but then again, didn't this just happen a few books ago, sorta, well, at least half of it happened. I feel at this point, it's not going to happen.

I'm not sure Connor's death really had much shock/impact on fans, though? He was, IMO, pretty obviously a temporary love interest while Toby/Tybalt was built up. While how he went may have surprised people, I doubt many were surprised to see him go one way or another. While there was certainly character impact, I'm not sure it had much external narrative punch. Connor's death also didn't have much impact outside of Toby herself. OTOH, Tybalt and Quentin are very much long term central characters, and their deaths would have more impact on more characters, and Quentin's death in particular would have far reaching consequences for pretty much everything.

Mind you, I hope it never happens, it's just interesting to think about.

I never felt that Connor was a temporary character. I thought he'd at least be around for the duration of the series. I much rather thought their relationship would end because of divided loyalties, his being from the underwater kingdom, I felt that eventually he'd be forced to choose his kingdom over the kingdom of the mists. As for a relationship with Tybalt, I admit that it somewhat took me by surprise, since basically in the first book, I saw Tybalt as being a foil for Toby, something like Trent is for Rachel in the Hollows. So, I never thought that Connor would have to die in order for Toby to move on to Tybalt ( ... )
