Haven 5.1-5.4: Well, that metanarrative sunk into the pits of Fail pretty fast, didn't it? At least Emily Rose seems to be having a lot of fun. I do like Mara and am invested in the mythology, but this show keeps piling its problems on top of each other and patting itself on the back.

Also, I refuse to believe that Vince and Dave, the career ( Read more... )

Maybe Mary Shelley was a time traveler who gave the idea to Franklin?

I'm forgiving of Irving for not reading it due to the fact that we live in an era where people will agree to the terms and conditions of things without even glancing at them 95% of the time, but if you bleed on a pen you should take that as a massive warning sign. But then, drugs and the claim his wife sent the guy will affect things -- not to mention the sheer relief that'd be associated with being unshackled after who knows how long.

Yeah. You can logic through things that are going on with Irving right then to make it understandable and less OOC than it initially appears, but you have to kinda sit on it for a bit.

ITA on Haven and especially "Croaton." But the men are still pretty, and Duke's gibberish was hysterical, so there's that.

Duke is actually the only male character I'm particularly fond of with these new episodes. I'm not...not fond of Dwight or Nathan, it's just that neither was really on my good side with these episodes.

Also, I know Emma Lahana asked to be let out of her contract because of family stuff, and that's why they killed Jennifer, but I really wish they'd left what happened to Jennifer a mystery in case they were able to bring her back, even for brief guest appearances.

Right now i'm mostly just interested in Mara. I have a feeling that we're going to learn that she and William are "evil" in the context that they see humans as disposable tools, and are actually trying to save their own world. From what she said, the 500 years they've been away is probably comparatively only a few years. (Not that it would make their actions any less awful.)

I've really enjoyed the first two eps of Madam Secretary, and I am praying so hard that her marriage remains rock-solid because this is the first established pairing that I've become really invested in. Usually I'm all about the UST and get bored the minute it's resolved, but they are so freaking adorable and the intimacy and comfort and history there is just...♥___ ( ... )

I can't speak for The Mentalist, but with Gates, I do agree she was meant to be a killjoy, but to me, her actions and annoyance with Castle-related antics made perfect sense. Reyes, to me, is more of a connection to Abbie's mother than anything else. And like Gates, her reaction to things makes sense to me. While we may learn that she's up to shady things, as it stands, keeping a history professor on the police department's payroll is absurd, a repeat criminal and psych patient with a duffel bag full of firearms in the police station is bad news, and a seasoned police officer arrested for murder suddenly blatantly going for the insanity plea is obviously using the system. If we look at the characters from the POV of the main characters, then yeah, they're an obstacle, but if we look at it from any other POV, their actions make more sense than other actions would have.

My way of seeing the new captain on Sleepy Hollow -- she is largely taking issue with things that are inherently questionable. Wondering why Ichabod is hanging around when he honestly doesn't have an official reason for being there, taking issue with Jenny having a bagful of guns on police property without giving a reason . . . my only real issue with her was when she used mental health treatments as a threat against Irving. Seriously, electroshock therapy is a legitimate treatment that is not akin to torture.

I feel the same about HTGAWM at this point. I trust that eventually I'll start to love the characters as they are more revealed but right now I haven't found anything that ties me to it strongly other than my appreciation for what it is.

PS. Segue from Sleepy Hollow to Selfie (what, John Cho is in both, that's a legit connection!) - have you seen it and if so, what do you make of it? I feel like I should hate it as a feminist, but I find it amusing and charming...

Haven't seen it, and haven't heard anything about it to make me particularly interested. I mean, aside form John Cho.
