Haven 5.1-5.4: Well, that metanarrative sunk into the pits of Fail pretty fast, didn't it? At least Emily Rose seems to be having a lot of fun. I do like Mara and am invested in the mythology, but this show keeps piling its problems on top of each other and patting itself on the back.
Also, I refuse to believe that Vince and Dave, the career

I'm kinda with you in that I agree, from Reyes' POV, it makes no sense for the budget to be wasted on an historian, what possible relevance could he have to the department? (and it's not like he's got Castle's sway with the mayor or anything to force the issue!) Her criticisms generally are pretty valid, and if you're not invested in Abby and Crane as we are, or in the dark about what's really happening, then it's pretty hard to argue where she's coming from.
Where I differ is that I object to her from a writing pov - I don't get why the writers threw her in, because at the end of the day, Crane is a main character and she's never going to fire him because he's essential to the show, so it seems easily set up to become this tedious dance where she gets on his case, tosses his ass out and then he returns anyway, the status quo never changing despite her demands...it's pointless.
(it's like suing House and expecting viewers to get invested in a plotline about his losing his medical licence because the show is named after this character and the formula revolves entirely around him diagnosing patients and saving lives, of course he's not going anywhere!)
That said, I did like the role she played in the last ep - the fact that Abby didn't demonize her while Jenny refused to acknowledge Reyes was doing her job, I loved that we got both sides and neither was The Right Opinion. And that she got Abby her mom's file, that was unexpected and a bit sweet. I hope she's not evil, there's so many people gunning for her because she's the antagonist that I hope she comes around, especially as it looks like Irving might be going Dark Side!
But yeah, I just hope the writers tread carefully with the Reyes/Crane relationship, because that could get boring verrrry fast if it's as one-note as it's been.
