Oh!! Elizabeth Peters passed away! That's sad...

And as long as I'm commenting, I love the Snow Queen AND 1960s Russian films, so I'll be very curious to hear how it is.

(And didn't you think by 2013 we would have all agreed that women are people, too? Alas. My "Free to Be You and Me" record is still relevant. Somebody call Marlo Thomas to parachute copies in to all those dudes.)

Just watched it. It's a perfectly servicable 60s children's fantasy movie, but as an adaptation of The Snow Queen, I didn't like it at all. They made it mostly about men and created a teacher who kept showing up to save Gerda, and took out the Spring Witch completely.

Awww, 10th Kingdom! I loved that; I've watched it three times, I think.

I didn't really enjoy the Amelia Peabody books, but I'm really fond of several Barbara Michaels books.

omg, Megan. Did he really just claim that there are no women superheroes because women don't do that sort of thing? WHAT DECADE ARE THESE DUDES LIVING IN.

eta: I think the best thing to come out of this (aside from the hundreds of "they're dumb" comments on that io9 article) is that I now know there is GOING TO BE A GRAPHIC NOVEL ABOUT THE SUFFRAGETTES AND THEIR AMAZON BODYGUARDS. I WOULD LIKE A TIME MACHINE, PLEASE.

It seems like we often learn about awesome things when fail is being covered. (I decided to request a couple of Faith Erin Hick's books for ILL after it.)

I've watched the Finnish adaptation of The Snow Queen; it was on YouTube without subtitles so unfortunately I didn't know what they were saying. Most of the story was easy enough to follow thanks to the visuals, though. I remember enjoying the music very much. Also, just a head's-up: the Spring Witch is creepy as hell.

I haven't seen the Russian version.

You have seen the 2002 version where Kai teaches a polar bear to ice skate, right?
