I've watched the Finnish adaptation of The Snow Queen; it was on YouTube without subtitles so unfortunately I didn't know what they were saying. Most of the story was easy enough to follow thanks to the visuals, though. I remember enjoying the music very much. Also, just a head's-up: the Spring Witch is creepy as hell.

I haven't seen the Russian version.

You have seen the 2002 version where Kai teaches a polar bear to ice skate, right?

Yes! lol'ing forever. There are a few parts of that adaptation I enjoy (both genuinely and in a "hamming it up" kind of way) but overall it feels like it drags on forever. I will also laugh forever at Bridget Fonda's/the Snow Queen's "NO FIRE!!!!" freak-outs.

The first time I watched it, I wasn't overly impressed, but I've ended up rewatching it every year-year and a half or so since ,and have become genuinely fond of it, and appreciative of some of the things it does, despite the hamming it up and cheesiness. It definitely needed to trim about half an hour off.
