You know, it's a bit odd watching the 2007 version of Persuasion when you've only seen Sally Hawkins in Fingersmith and Tipping the Velvet before.  It's all "But...Anne is straight.  I'm not used to you being in love with men."  (I am turning into one of those people who pigeonholes actors into certain types, aren't I?)

I haven't read the book yet ( Read more... )

movie: persuasion

I was Not happy with the 2007 version. I much prefer the Amanda Root version.

For some reason, I initially thought this version was by Andrew Davies.

I was glad to be wrong, as the POV is...not one I associate with his stuff.

I know Andrew Davies was involved other Season of Austen productions, including Sense & Sensibility and duels fought to electric guitar. (My poor fingers are mad at me for making them type that sentence.) I find that so odd since the Ehle Firth P&P is the only adaptation of P&P I acknowledge.

I haven't seen his Sense and Sensibility yet, but aside from the fact that I think he piunished Isabella even more than Austen did, I liked his Northanger Abbey, and he did the only Emma I like aside from Clueless.

Glancing at IMDB, I've seen and liked about a dozen of his productions, and the only oine I didn't care much for was The Way We Live Now, and IIRc, the things I didn't like much about it (mostly the lessons a lot of the women learned) were more from the original text.

Pft, WHAT letter moment? Oh, the one that basically wasn't there. (I haven't read the book and it's been a couple years since I saw the other version, and I know about the letter moment.) Apparently they thought about 8 minutes of Sally Hawkins running all over the place was better.

And yeah, I was surprised Anne's friend didn't go into detail beyond "He is bad! Bad bad bad! Just wants the Hall!"

I don't think the two conflict.
