You know, it's a bit odd watching the 2007 version of Persuasion when you've only seen Sally Hawkins in Fingersmith and Tipping the Velvet before.  It's all "But...Anne is straight.  I'm not used to you being in love with men."  (I am turning into one of those people who pigeonholes actors into certain types, aren't I?)

I haven't read the book yet, but this actually mostly made me want to rewatch the version with Amanda Root?  I remember Anne there being kind of annoyed and suppressing bitchiness over the world declaring that HER LIFE IS OVER because she isn't married at 27 and relegating her to the sidelines as a charity case or whatever, whereas here  I get more Tragic and Resigned To Her Fate.  (Though, I think most roles I've seen Amanda Root in have her suppressing bitchiness over patriarchy.)  Also, Rupert Penry-Jones, you are quite pretty but your endless silent brooding is making me giggle because I just keep thinking you are too pretty to brood this much.  Also, Ciaran Hinds is a master brooder.

(BTW,  BBC really went for the height differences in the main pairings when casting The Jane Austen Season, didn't they?)
