ah I remember Shikozu's introduction! I wanted to kill her pretty hardcore, but then I don't think we were supposed to like her to begin with. Kind of like Jool. I did like John through most of the episode at least, which is more then I can say for a lot of episodes in season 3...

I loved Jool almost from her first scene, myself. Shikozu's intro, I think, is jarring not only because of the abrupt replacement of Jool (while Jool can be said to have replaced Zhaan, Zhaan was still around in her first few episodes, and they were completely differnt characters) but because it's very...awkward. It's rather like Chiana's introduction, which was "shove in this character everyone is going to clash with and see what happens," whichwas really too heavyhanded. With Chiana, while she became (and remains) my third favorite after Zhaan and Aeryn by the end of season 2, the heavyhandedness and awkwardness of how she was handled early on made it hard for me to warm up to her. With Shikozu, based on this episode, there's the same clumsy character handling, but the writers have improved enough that it doesn't initially turn me off of the character ( ... )

Ah Jool was too much for me when she was introduced, it definitely took me a few episodes to get used to her. I can't say much more then that given your warning. As far as Shikozu we can have this conversation at the end of the season as well. XD Sadly much of what I want to say about both is much too spoilery.

I agree about Talyn!John and Moya!John. Other then random moments, Moya!John was such a...I don't want to say a baby, but he was definitely whiny and petulant and 'Why him and not me?!' bratty. So I guess childish works. I liked Harvey at first but then I liked Scorpio a whole lot more before he was constantly in everything. I think Bracka was still in my top 3 at this point (I have such a fondness for loyal through everything possible minions) along with Chiana and Aeryn. I do remember an overwhelming dislike of D'Argo, but I forget why. Hm. After I get the series back from my friends I might have to rewatch it again.

Harvey/Scorpius have just worn thin for me. I thought both worked very well when first introduced, but now they've reached the point of being an ex who won't go away and doesn't realize there's nothing left for him.

That's very interesting about D, because he's the only male character on the show who I both like and am interested in. (I like John, most of the time, but don't find him very interesting, and I find Crais to be one of the most interesting characters on the show, but I don't particularly like him. I'm not convinced Pilot even has a gender, and Rygel and Stark are largely neutral for me, with whether I like or am annoyed by them determined by what's going on at the time.)

I have never ever liked Sikozu because characters that go around feeling superior to everyone without sufficient arsenal of something to back it up irritate me (Scorpius can feel superior to everyone because, except for lack of morals, he is). Her hair does get better :)

I found the beginning of S4 rough myself, but the second half of S4 is my favorite FS ever.

ETA: I know Jool is a fandom punching bag but I never got it - I love her to bits - not as much as Aeryn and Chiana but more than even Zhaan (who I do adore). Maybe because I know that if I woke up in that situation, I'd be like her - I don't have Chiana's off-kilter anything goes rebel and criminal background, Zhaan's violence-serenity combo, Crichton's whatever-it-is - a mix of insanity and brilliance. I'd be all for 'you are criminals, get me ouuuuuut!'

Actually, the only reason Scorpius's "I am better than everyone" hasn't been intolerable for me all along is that, while he has his moments, he's a fairly normal villain, and so I can ignore him when I want.

I've largely avoided the FS fandom due to spoilers, so I really only have tidbits people share about the fandom to go on, along with going in knowing that most of the fans seem to regard Aeryn/John as the OTP to end all OTPs.

I liked Sikozu (mostly because this show has the ability the make me like just about anyone), but certainly not as much as Jool. Anyway, while watching this episode I was mostly entranced by the vision of a bikini-clad Aeryn.

Hmm...bikini clad Aeryn was stunning, but those sequences made me realize that Aeryn is probably going to work through most of her 2 Johns issues offscreen, and pointed out how virtually everything in the show is John's POV, when I find everyone else's so much more interesting.

True. Then again, watching the show, I quickly got over my irritation at how we had to rely so much on Crichton't POV when, in certain sitations, it would have been so much more enlightening to know what the other characters were thinking. But I guess we have to roll with it, what with Crichton being the viewer's proxy and one bastion of familiarity amid the raging madness of the universe (even though, at times, he acted crazier than any alien ever could).

I didn't really mind Aeryn dealing with the Crichtons issues offscreen because I was rather satisfied with the episode, straight after Crichton 2's death where she isolates herself in that seedy galactic hotel to have a good brood, deal with twenty issues at once and undergo a reverse-cathasis. I know I'm in the minotity, but I felt that after that, I could sorta trace her thought-patterns and see where she was headed even when it wasn't explicitly spelled out.

The problem is that television tends to assume that if it shows the man working out things and/or coming to a realization, then there's no point in having the woman to the same.

As far as the Crichton POV goes...the thing is that, while I like him, I don't find him or his POV very interesting. So when we start going on and on with his stuff, I get really, really bored.

Oh, season four =D I like Siko, but she sort of has to grow on you.

I suspect she grew on me faster than she does on others because of how much John was annoying me at the time.

Yay, Sikozu!

Their redheads were annoying, yes, but I oddly liked them...

Oddly, i'm not really annoyed by their redheads at all.
