Brad Pitt also wasn't at any of the promotions/red carpet stuff as far as I saw.

I think he is a 'serious' actor who has better things to do?

Or maybe he did the voice as a favour to a friend?

This post: http://megamind-movie.livejournal.com/84761.html has a map of Metro City.

Based on the location of the ACTUAL observatory and Megamind's lair (also the location of the FAKE observatory) it is highly possible in my opinion that Metro Man could have seen the fake observatory as he flew to the location of the real one.

1) Yeah, that doesn't seem like Megamind, until you realize that by this point the plan was pretty much over. He figured Metro Man was mere seconds from escaping, and the Death Ray didn't look like it was going to fire anywhere near that soon, so just trying to escape while he can seems the most logical choice here. Granted, logic sometimes takes a backseat to his persistence, (he did, after all, know that he had absolutely no chance of winning,) but even Megamind knows the difference between fighting overwhelming odds and beating a dead horse.
And it's always better not to go to jail if he can help it, because that gives him the opportunity to build something even better for his next plan, and he can execute said plan sooner without having to break out of prison first.
