Borked Face Templates and Pre-Made Sims (and how to fix them!)

Sep 07, 2010 21:57

So, as many of you may be aware of, two of the default Maxis face templates - 21 and 25 - are broken, as in they're not linked correctly to the other ages. They'll show up as face template 2 for any other age than adult (sometimes the elf template ( Read more... )

bork, broken faces, clean premade neighbourhoods, clean uberhood

I'm about to go to work so I'll just quickly say "thanks!" and let you know to take a look at Mortimer Goth. I'm not sure if it's a quirk of the original templates or it if it borkage that gets carried on with clean templates but when you age him down to adult he comes up blond, whereas his hair should be brown or black (I can't remember what his genetics say).

Also, for Gilbert and the other 2, do you mean they were given a dye job so they show one hair colour and genetically have another? There are lots of townies like that. Not sure about playables but definitely lots of townies with dye job. For the clean templates/megahood the one most likely to offend in that category is Kaylynn Langerak, who is genetically blond. There is actually a list of townies and their dye jobs amongst stories at the Exchange. But I don't think I could find it even if you offered me a variety of favours. I just know I've seen it in the past, linked from a site.

Hey. :)

This isn't actually about hair colour, but the facial structures. I've already fixed all hair colour inconsistencies to the best of my ability, including the townies (there's some notes on it somewhere in my journal).

The hair colour sims get when aging down from elder appears to be more or less random, and I don't know of a way to fix it in SimPE, but a quick trip to the mirror will fix that right up so I haven't really concerned myself with it. Mortimer's genetic hair colour was brown, originally, but I changed it to black because, well, that's what it SHOULD be (according to pictures and everyone he's related to and well, Sims 1).

Gilbert's blonde, he's just dyed his hair black. But his genetic facial structure features a flat nose and a huge scary chin. And his mother's genetic facial structure looks absolutely nothing like her.

I noticed this in Hal too! I knew something was wrong there and when Strange_tomato posted about a born in game sim with an odd face template, I knew for certain that it wasn't just me.

I'd really like it if Hal's adult face matched his child and teen face. It's odd that he literally transforms when aging into an adult. He looks like a different sim entirely.

I was thinking that too, the same thing with Gilbert, Denise and Jasmine. They should look like how people know them. Just thought I'd ask for input on it.

Wait a second, so this means that adult Hal Capp does not look like the "real" Hal? O_o

Oh damn it! And I've just extracted him for my new hood :P.

Yeah, as a kid he looks like a Face 2 sim with pointy eyebrows: http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/Hal_Capp

...And as an adult he looks like a Face 21 sim with pointy eyebrows (same face template at Tom Freshe).

Don't we all just love Eaxis and their sloppiness? 8 (9) EPs and they never fixed this.

Yeah, it is ridiculous!

I hope his sloppy genes do not affect his daughters, though. They were created in CAS, but now I wonder what will happen to THEM when they become adults :P.

Well... if they have any Face 2 features, beware, because those will most likely change.

I'd like to see Hal Capp keep his child looks. I extracted him to use at LFT based on that look, only to be very surprised by his adult face.

Yeah, me too. I've never really played him as an adult, so his child looks is what I know him by. I imagine it'll be the same for most people.

What do you think about Gilbert and Co?

(Also, I kinda like Jasmine's "real" nose, it has character. :P)

Personally, I think I was pleased by the reports of Gilbert having "more interesting" genes, but if it's a broken template, then that's not so cool. That's more likely, right? Or was he also surgeried like Jasmine?

I like her genetic nose too, but her current nose still has character for me. It has an unusual bridge, which is likely due to the honkin' big nose she started with in CAS. She seemed more "template" when I extracted her, and I didn't really like it. Not to mention the fact that I was so used to her the other way. That's why I corrected her genes so I could finally extract the right face.

Gilbert was indeed surgeried, as was his mother. Gilbert's genetic looks are... interesting, but when I put them on him ingame, they creeped me out. Made him look... puppetish, somehow. Denise's genetic looks are quite cool, but in the end I thought it'd be better for both of them to just look like how people know them. The change would be too great.

Jasmine does have an interesting face either way. I let her keep her looks, too, and overwrote the genetic ones. Maybe this "alternative" looks could be used in something else, though. Bizarro universe legacy or something. ;)

Darn, how annoying is this!? :P Way to go (again) Eaxis... I already gave some of the pre-mades tiny surgeries in the Uberhood, so I guess I should do the same to all the rest of them too. Like Hal Capp and Jacquets. I guess there's no chance to take a break even for a day from the pc ;)

thanks for sharing this information, I had no idea that those face templates were borked :/

Make sure to follow the tutorial above from MTS2 if you want your surgeries to be genetic. :) Otherwise their kids will get the same problems.

Yeah, I made them genetic already. :) It was kind of funny, when I cloned Denise Jacquet yesterday, she actually looked much better before Maxis gave her surgery. :P

Yeah, I like how Denise "actually" looks, and Jasmine. But I don't like how Gilbert looks at all, he looks... awkward. Sure, his Face 2 is boring, but...

I'm really torn on what to do with them. D:
