Borked Face Templates and Pre-Made Sims (and how to fix them!)

Sep 07, 2010 21:57

So, as many of you may be aware of, two of the default Maxis face templates - 21 and 25 - are broken, as in they're not linked correctly to the other ages. They'll show up as face template 2 for any other age than adult (sometimes the elf template ( Read more... )

bork, broken faces, clean premade neighbourhoods, clean uberhood

Wow, I knew the Jacquets were somehow borked, because they are impossible to clone correctly, but not all those others O_0

Maybe I'm a bit late already, but personally I'd change them based on how they look when the game starts, because that's how we know them. :)

Yeah, it clones their genetic looks instead of the surgerie'd ones. I'm glad I worked out that mystery. :P

That's what I decided to do, too. :)

Hello! Isn't one of Jon Smith Tricou's illegitimate downtownie kids based on this template? 1E9, the blonde gothy one? I don't have him because of a cleaned out template, but I remember hearing that somewhere.

He is indeed, he's got template 25. I guess a lot of people were disappointed when growing him up. :P

Hahaha! XD Indeed they were. But it's okay because his kids will still have Face 2 (or whatever), until they reach adulthood and then BOOOM! Face 25 returns.

In his case, he should keep his teen looks, if we're sticking with the logic that the premades should retain their looks.

It really sucks that one of the downtownie templates is also flawed! Did nobody at EA ever notice this? You'd think it would have been corrected in later EPs or with a patch. (Yeah, I know. Wishful thinking...)

*snickers* Fug Panic! I'd love to see some posts about that. :P

But I agree, the gothie kid would look really... off with his goth makeup and Jared Starchild's lumpy face.

He's not the only one, either. I found at least three more (2 teens and 1 adult) in the list of downtownies.

But at least HBD is okay. ;)

Now that you mention it, the blonde goth did look different before I made him a YA, but it's harder to tell because of the make-up. But his "brother", the one with glasses and the ugly hair cut, definitely got a completely different face, the same that can be seen here http://simppl-life.livejournal.com/2171.html (scroll down to last pictures) and my comment. And in my game, Sophia Jocque, from Desiderata Valley, gained elf ears (and template I assume) just like the Ruben brothers.

I knew about the two downtownie kids (they're not included in the uberhood, though, because I don't think any of them were really meant to be John Smith Tricou's kids - silly EAxis), but not about Sophia! But that makes sense, she does have the 25-template features. Thanks for letting me know! *goes to add her to The List*

(Also, cute plantsims. :))

Let me check through my in game screen caps, I should find pics that show her elder face.
Thank you for this interesting problem, I just found out about it the other day, in the LJ I linked to (it's not mine, but they're cute indeed ;)). I did notice that some sims really had ugly genes, but individually. Now it all makes sense.

The same interest for semi-mysteries made me play the Tricou teens, who really, as you said, don't have anything to do with the Tricous whatsoever, nor with each other, for that matter. Only that maxis decided to link them who knows why.

Well, TBH, I just found out two of them had a little more in common that I thought: borked faces :D

Thanks, but no need for the screencap, I cloned her and had a look in Body Shop. And, yep, there's those pesky elf features. I also discovered that her daughter, Violet, has some of it too, mainly the eyes and nose. D:

Hah, I was so caught up with the face stuff I didn't even notice the journal name was different. :P Oops.

I've no idea what EAxis was doing with the Tricou downtownie teens. They're only linked one way in the family tree, too. They show him as their father, but if you click on him you don't see them (or the other way around, I can't remember). But considering the amount of utter gargabe I've found lying around in the 'hoods, I guess it's not really that weird. Heh, I guess they didn't expect the players to invent a program and go dig around in their mess. :)

I know. I'm afraid there's nothing I can do about that, since it's not my tutorial, but the instructions still explain what to do. Maybe you could contact the creator of the tutorial and ask if they can put the pictures back up.

Making a surgery genetic and fixing the broken faces is a very similar procedure in SimPE. I've explained how to do it step by step here: http://meetme2theriver.livejournal.com/51301.html?thread=660069#t660069

I didn't even know that Sophia would have elf ears as an elder until she kept producing kids with them in my game :(
