♠ The Opening [PART TWO] (interactive)

Dec 15, 2010 20:37

[The bed is warm. Somewhere nearby, you can hear the crackling of a fire. You almost don't want to wake, and it's only as you start to drift back to sleep that you realize something: You shouldn't be here. You sit up quickly, but before you can think on it there's a loud pounding at the door ( Read more... )

[She's just as confused as everyone else, even though her clothes make her look as if she was with Daniel and Sarah.

She raised her hand to her mouth uneasily, and walked over to Daniel. He had offered to answer questions, so she was going to ask them.]
Excuse me, sir. You said we would make it back to our homes, but where are we now? What has become of those from out homes? Is there any way that we might contact them?

[He regards her quietly, and appears to be dressed in a police uniform this young woman might find familiar.]

The city of Avon, I don't know and I couldn't possibly, and I'm afraid not.

[He pauses.] Is that all?

[The uniform is a little reassuring, though the news of not being able to contact the outside world does distress her.]

What is it that you expect of us? Please, what can you tell us about our situation?

[Daniel gives this young lady a more handsome smile than he's given the others.]

We expect you to be courteous to the city and its inhabitants, young miss. I'm afraid you've got no choice but to live here.

[Hungary still isn't sure whether or not this is a dream. But regardless, she does have questions. She approaches the man with an irritated expression and a determined glare.]

I have a few questions Daniel, if you don't mind. How about we start with why we've been brought here in the first place?

Sergeant Rutherford. [He folds his arms across his chest and doesn't seem to be affected by Hungary's glare.]

I don't have all the answers. Settle in and make the best of it. Everything does happen for a reason.

.......[Whatever, Daniel.]

I'm not asking for all the answers. Any answers at all would be an improvement. It's pretty clear that we were expected. Were we chosen specifically, or at random?

Any?

Well, you're in Avon. That room you just came from is yours. You don't need to worry much about money, unless you wish to buy luxuries or better living quarters. Lets see...Oh, you can find jobs anywhere around the city.

As for how you're chosen? It's not important.

[Mello is thoroughly confused about this whole situation. He isn't sure whether he's been caught by the people who were after him back in his own world or not and this is some sort of odd prison sentence, or if it is something else entirely. It doesn't seem like his own world, but he feels as though it would make sense for it to be. At least they said they'd answer fucking questions.]

What the hell is going on here? [He speaks in a demanding tone, glaring scathingly at Daniel.] What is this? Is this some kinda prison, or what? Who are you?

[He never claimed he would say what anyone wanted to hear, or that the answers would be helpful...

Daniel raises both eyebrows with a skeptical, condescending air.]

A meeting. And prison? [His lips form a very amused smile that grows until laughter bubbles up from his throat.] This isn't a prison. You wouldn't want to see what our prisons look like, so I suggest you behave. [Though he sounded amused, the last word was punctuated with a low, dangerous tone; the smile remained.]

Police Sergeant Daniel Rutherford.

[Mello narrows his eyes, gritting his teeth. Daniel's response-- the condescending air he gives off, his laughter-- irritates him. Asshole. He already doesn't think he likes this guy.]

Seems like a bloody prison to me. [He smirks, as if only to return the other's rather unpleasant smile; it is by no means a 'friendly' expression that he is giving.] Where are we? And would you happen to be so kind as to tell me why I'm here, if this isn't a prison of some sort?

Reality is usually a matter of perception, isn't it? [He may be joking, or he may be mocking you, Mello.]

The city of Avon, and you're here because you were brought here. We can't do a damn thing about it. ... Are you going to stand there slack-jawed all day?

[For Watanuki, waking up in a strange room surrounded by strange things is surprisingly unsurprising. In it's own way it makes him homesick and makes the absence of his friends so much more apparent than it had been moments ago. He stays silent as the man-Daniel-speaks, listening intently with his hand on the head of the fox. He finds the idea of a welcoming committee strange, considering. But somewhat pleasant.]

Thank you for the warning, sir. I appreciate it. I have only a few questions, if you might indulge me? [His voice is soft and polite] Is there any way to tell if others you know are here? And what can I do to fit in better? [He nods quietly and politely to the woman, but keeps his focus on Daniel, absorbing as much information as he can]

[The fox winds around his legs, looking like nothing more than a giant dog, dark eyes watchful.]

[Sarah nods in return, giving Watanuki a small smile.

Silent, she waits for Daniel to answer the boy's questions. She didn't know what was going on, after all, and didn't plan on saying much until she'd gathered some information of her own.]

[Daniel appreciates that two of these strangers had proper manners, although the fox receives a brief glance.

Sarah too is the subject of a momentary look from Daniel. He wonders why she'd come here, but he felt pleased she had all the same.]

Of course. [He stands proud in his uniform, hands clasped behind his back.]

The only way to know that is to use the devices provided or look on foot. As for 'fitting in'...

[He smiles, amused.] ... Watch us. Mirror us. Don't waste your time denying the situation at hand.

[Watanuki answers the smile with a brief one of his own. She seems kind and less officious than the man in front of him.]

Thank you. I haven't had much time to explore the device, but I'll look into its working. [He inclines his head in quiet compliance] Go with the flow, make no waves, and pretend things are as they always have been. It sounds almost simple. [Almost too simple, comparatively. Though he preferred this method by far.]

[The fox stared back, ears pricking forward and single tail swishing once behind him. He would defend his master, but otherwise he would not act against any of the people in the room. The giant head moved slowly, ears still pricked forward. Someone was here, a familiar scent.]

[Break is distracted. This isn't as surprising as it ought to be, but it's incredibly inconvenient. He's not feeling especially well, and more importantly, he has things to do back home. Important things. They could hardly have chosen a worse time.]

When will we make it home?

There's no way of knowing. Bringing you all here wasn't exactly my idea, after all. [There's the slightest hint of aggravation in his tone.]

[Ah. He's angry already-- troublesome, when he has information and Break doesn't. He makes a token effort to brighten up his tone.]

Of course not. You've made it clear enough that you don't want us here. But I think you misunderstand-- when will we be returned? Will time have passed in our home as it has here?

[Before Dan can answer, Sarah steps forward curiously.]

What do you mean? I don't understand how time can stop in another part of the world, simply because you're--
