[The audio feed kicks in sharply, but whoever has turned the thing on is silent for several seconds. The silence is followed shortly by the sound of heavy-booted footsteps pacing back and forth across a wooden surface; each step is accompanied by a soft chiming noise of something metallic, possibly loose change or a chain. When the pacing stops and ( Read more... )

Yeah? Well that's just great. At least now I know who else doesn't have a damn clue.

Save yourself some time and add "everyone else" to the list.

[There's a soft sound of an exasperated kind of exhale before he speaks again.] Someone has to know something. And if they don't, then why haven't they bothered trying to find out?

[Obviously he doesn't have any insight to offer here. Heine already knows as much as he does. But this is one of those times when he just can't help ask about Heine's...Heine-isms.]

...Who's 'Mr Darcy'?

Wait, what--? [There's a pause, and it's very likely that Kanda can imagine the 'what the hell' look Heine might have on his face on the other end of the feed.] How can you not know who Mr. Darcy? He's from your corner of the timeline. Jeeze.

[Silence. If he was there he'd be staaaaaaaaaring at you right now, Heine.]

[He knows what face goes with that silence.]

... How can you not know this shit?

'ello. [He sighs, before he continues talking. His voice sounds sort of tired, maybe a little bit unfriendly or irritated.] Can't answer any of your questions, 'cause I've got no clue either. However, I guess you pro'lly should know that there is currently a plague epidemic in this city, so be careful.

[He pauses for a moment; it sounds like he's eating something.]

Welcome, and all that.

[Heine is very unphased by gruffness or unfriendly attitudes. He is quiet for a few seconds then he makes a tch sound.] Yeah, nice. Great to know who doesn't have answers.

And there's... A plague? Seriously? When did that start? [He makes a short grunt through his nose.] 's fine: I don't get sick.

No one's got those answers yet. I think it's the kinda thing you're gonna have to figure out.

And yeah, first person died from it about a week ago. [He raises an eyebrow at the statement.] Well, then. I hope you mean you physically can't get sick, 'cause then you've sure as hell lucked out.

I've heard that there is someone out there who can never get sick~

[Izaya laughs a bit]

But that's just a story after all...

[A young blond girl appears on the screen, looking a little concerned. She was starting to feel bad for all of these new people who keep showing up.]

It seems a lot like London, but we really don't quite know.

It's definitely not the dark ages though! People are calling this the Age of Enlightenment!

If it really is the same time as mine...

Yeah well mashed potatoes seem like frosting, doesn't make it the same. [He's losing patience with all these non-answers, but he likely wouldn't be such a snarky ass if this were a face-to-face conversation.]

Enlightenment, huh? So where's the enlightening knowledge of where we are or how we got here?

What time are you supposed to be from?

((He starts to speak at "Don't expect..."))

1897. I wish I could be more helpful about exactly where we are, but no one here knows for sure. I'm just offering my best guesses.

Yeah? Well I fell asleep in 2009 and woke up... here. Looks like you're in an era closer to this place than me. If looks are anything to go by.

[A pause.] Is there anyone in charge here? A mayor or something?

--?! [He knows that voice. He knows it really well. There's a moment where his stomach tightens inside him and he sucks in a breath. It occurs to him in that moment that it's the voice of the country that had insisted Heine was his citizen--dual citizen with Germany's brother, bug still. But if this was another world then it likely wasn't the Germany he knew... But then Kanda had remembered him. Damn it all. Heine hadn't given much of a damn about people before, and now be was aware of how nervous he was about whether this Germany was the one he knew or not.

The silence while Heine's mind reels drags on for sometime, then just as it seems like he isn't going to reply at all, he clears his throat.]

... Germany.

[Despite the fact he's not sure who this person is (a citizen, perhaps? as much as he'd love to say he kept track of them all, there were a lot of them especially if this place was pulling people from history), he has to admit he is rather glad for the skip over the "You're a country? Wow are you high? No way!" business. Honestly this is kind of nice.]

Ah, you...are you citizen of mine?

[There is another long pause, but the feed is still clearly running--don't adjust your devices yet--it just seems fairly obvious that he's having a bit of trouble trying to think what to say. No, there is definitely none of the 'Country? Whut?' attitude from him, but that doesn't make the situation any less easy to process for Heine.]

Yeah. Kinda, I guess. Don't worry about it.
