[What a charmingly weird young lady.]

We haven't got much incentive to follow your orders if you're only going to crush us for our obedience, have we?

[Woah, the device talked back.]

How else are we gonna find the culprit, then?

You can't go threatening me one second and asking for my advice the next. I would think an apology is in order first.

Why? 'snot like I did anything wrong.

[As the video starts up Kyran is in the middle of finding a safe place to set the device, and it takes him a few moments to balance it properly by the window the same way as he had it set up before. He sits down and gets comfortable, smiling brightly.]

I see this thing can pick up other people broadcasting too... Alright then, hi there missy! My name is Kyran, nice to meet you!

I don't suppose you know what danmaku is, too?

That sounds like one of those Japanese words from the manga books I've been reading, but I have no idea what it means.

[He smiles hopefully]

Care to share?

Danmaku's how we fight and resolve things. We take turns to cast a specific spell, and it has a time limit, but it's much more powerful. The spell typically displays itself in bullet and laser patterns.

What's more important is how beautiful the patterns are, not how strong it is. It's a very mental thing.

It's very nice to meet you, Marisa! [A rather chipper, if tired looking, little girl curtsies on the screen. She looks a lot like she could be a normal person from the city, judging by her dress and her manner.]

I'm sorry, but I don't believe that I have ever heard of danmaku before. Or Shikigami. Are they a friend of yours?

I am fairly certain that none of the people in this house are affiliated with those who brought us here any more than you are miss.

Shikigami are servant spirits, pretty much. Danmaku's a way of fighting without anyone getting hurt too badly.

...what if we go around the city and beat up the first people we see? That usually works.

Here I think that you will only get the locals to be even less helpful. You might even get arrested for that.

It's not really clear if they have anything to do with this anyway.

Fine, but I'm not discounting it as a solution.

Well, someone brought us here for something. Even shits and giggles count as one.

[A witch? That was different. You got his attention little miss.]

A shikigami? Is it here with you? [He should probably keep an eye on this girl too. So long as she didn't start actually injuring humans, hopefully he wouldn't need to worry about her shikigami- freak or not.]

I am pretty sure you will run into some trouble if you try to hurt the humans here.

Isn't the talking device the shikigami? Anyway, I don't have any of 'em.

Well, if we play danmaku no one's gonna get hurt a whole lot.

No, it appears to be a man-made electronic device, though it doesn't appear to require charging. It's also quite out of place for this time period.

[That was a bit of a relief to here. Kyran is enough trouble.]

"Bullet barrage". Somehow that does not sound like something were people will not get very hurt.

So it's kind of like those cell phone things?

That's just a name for the magical projectiles. Getting hit by one doesn't really hurt that much.

It's not intimidation or anything. It's a clear and simple truth.
