Re Xander's eye - yes, that's from season 7 of Buffy. His eye was poked out by the bad guy being played by Nathan Fillion.
Re Dawn being gigantic - there was something in the first issue of season 8 explaining she'd had sex with a thricewise, whatever that is, and turned huge. I'm not sure why, it's all very confusing.

Okay, that's what I thought. I remembered it was sort of mentioned in passing, but I sort of expected that there was more to the story, instead of "mumblemumblemumbleCURSE".
Also, what about the snakelady? I don't think they've named her, but they keep talking about her in relation to Willow (like she told Willow something, or did something for her), but I have no idea who she is.
Took some poking around, but she seems to be a demon - Saga Vasuki - that taught Willow to be more badass.
Oh, and Wikipedia was helpful on the Dawn front. Apparently she cheated on her thricewise boyfriend in college and he cursed her until she apologises, which is why the transformations.
After finishing Buffy Season 7, I wanted to jump right into Buffy 8, but was 'forced' to read Fray first (somebody just happens to be a major stickler for going about series the 'right' way). Made it through it in a day--I wasn't terribly excited about it, but the world didn't completely get on my nerves and it ended up being kind of enjoyable. Although I had my wires crossed--I thought Buffy was supposed to show up in Fray, not the other way around, so I spent the whole time wondering where she was. :-)
