I used to wear a religious medallion, and after that a cross. It was a little silver thing something like this. (bottom center) Not frilly but not clunky. Although I'm no longer christian, if I still had that cross, I would wear it.* Why? Because playing with it and the chain it was on was a terrific coping method for work-induced anxiety. As far back as I can remember I have always worn something around my neck. I feel exposed or something if I do not have something on. Currently I wear a four way medal on a short box silver chain (18") and a crucifix on a longer chain. Generally, I do not like to wear crucifixes or crosses. I limit my faith expression to explicitly Catholic symbols (thus the four way medal with an inscription on the back that says.. I am a catholic, call a priest). The crucifix was given to me by my sister in law (Nora's sister) two years ago and it was their paternal grandmother's crucifix, so I wear it for that reason alone I guess. It means something to me in that regard. It is inscribed in French on the back, always faithful, always true. I keep this one under my shirt at all times and do not display it though I do display the four way medal without much thought. I "worry" both of them when I am anxious. I also carry a rosary and use that to soothe me. Fingering the beads, whether I am saying the rosary or not is a comfort. When I ( ... )
