That's a pretty brain picture! I can't look at that without thinking of how much Sylar would like brains and all they can do. It's such a beautiful, delicate organ.
And that picture you posted IS a chicken. Probably a cochin or maybe a Polish due to the topknot. Those are breeds. And it's an individual with the frizzle feather trait, which can crop up in any breed (and if bred for, would denote a family, strain, or bloodline). The picture posted looks like a hen - no visible wattles, beak and facial skin is drably colored, no visible tail feathers, and no visible flashy coloration. It could be a rooster, as there are varieties of chicken where the rooster is colored identically to the hen, but it's probably a hen.
