Subway Hold-up

May 22, 2006 18:36

On my way to Flash class tonight I stopped by the Subway shop right outside Pike Place Market for some dinner. The clerk began to make my sandwich but then she stopped after cutting the bread and asked me if I had a phone to call the police. She told me the store had just been robbed. I think she was too shaken up to call the cops herself. Or else ( Read more... )

Meredith, I've been thinking about the whole Chinese hall lately, and I realized that I have no idea what's going on with you. I know you returned to the US and are now living in Seattle, but I know nothing beyond that.

Yep, living in Seattle with Helen (she got into an exchange program at UW and I followed here here). I'm also studying web design part-time, and working part-time for a little tiny start-up with huge ambitions to take over the world. ;)

However, all that's about to change in less than a month when school's out, Helen goes home, I move in with my grandparents in Silicon Valley, and look for a new job there.

As to whether I'll eventually move back to Taiwan and get some mileage out of the old degree, that's all up in the air. Are you going to China?

I'm actually going to Russia next year on the Fulbright, and then the following year I'll probably go to China and study at the Hopkins-Nanjing Center - depends on whether or not they still give me a scholarship.

I had no idea you were living with Helen - that's so cool! You guys have been together for so long, it's really impressive!

How do you get a job with a start-up? I mean, do they post ads somewhere or do you just get it through someone you know?

In the back of my mind, I keep hoping that all of us will eventually move to China or Taiwan and live together. I'm partial towards China, of course. We could all live in a Hutong - it'd be like dorm life all over again.

Russia then China -- sounds like an awesome plan, congratulations!

I found my job through a Craigslist posting. Start-ups like to hire people with no experience because they're cheap and people with no experience like to work at start-ups because you learn a lot of stuff really fast. Hopefully in my next job I can save up some money to fund another stint in Taiwan (or grad school).

I agree that we should all live together in Asia!

Remember that stupid Subway clerk in Neihu who didn't give me and Emily our cookies? WTF. I'm still mad about that, because I really wanted a cookie that day.

Maybe the fundamental problem with chain stores is that bad karma from one can be taken out on another.

Maybe the robber was a disgruntled customer who didn't get his cookies once at some far-off franchise.

I need to point this out before someone else does: "didn't get his cookies" = "didn't have an orgasm." I'm not even going to start trying to think of witty ways to play with that little double entendre.
