Facebook is kind of awful

I signed up on Facebook maybe a few months after it started when I was at Stanford's summer thing. It seemed like a neat idea then because it was MySpace except it didn't allow people to stab you in the eye with CSS

...and there was that dude whose spouse had her FB picture automatically inserted into some "meet hot singles!" ad and presented to him on his FB page view. They weren't clueless and had a sense of humor about it, "Hey Honey, you're single and looking?"

But it's just the bit about having a fucking program pretending to be a particular person that's really annoying, whether it's FB dredging its user content regardless of user intent, or Plaxo sending out those emails written as if their users wrote them...

I don't see any ads on facebook but then again I run adblock like a sane individual. What bothers me about the site is the countless terrible games and apps people get suckered in to.

The web should be made strictly nonprofit, as in it should be illegal to make money using it in any way whatsoever. Let the capitalists invent their own protocol.
