Prompt: So where ARE the spouses of the Hogwarts teachers?
Rating: PG
Word Count: 300 (this is Spa...oh, never mind)

The cat padded silently into the room, and just as silently Transfigured itself into Minerva. Swiping at her nose absently with one hand (it sometimes took a little time, these days, for the habits of her Animagus form to slip away), she turned and very carefully shut the door, listening for a moment to make sure that she was alone. Then she turned and gently lifted the bedsheet.

She looked for a long time at what lay underneath, her eyes slowly filling with tears. "I'm sorry," she whispered at last. "The war is over - we won, you know. Only - Albus is dead, and I - don't know how to get you out -" Her voice rose to a wail on the last word, and then cut off with a stifled shriek as a hand landed on her shoulder. The first time I read this through I was a bit confused because I thought Minerva was looking into a bed, but then it all clicked into place. WOE.

Eep. And Dumbledore was sufficiently relentless in doing what was necessary to himself and others in order to defeat Voldemort that I can imagine this happening. Chilling.

Thanks! And yeah, I can see Dumbledore doing this or something equally ruthless to make sure that none of his people were security risks - and then convincing himself that 'at least they'll never come home to the Mark over their houses'...
