There was hope. But the Chosen One would need stalwart allies to support him, and Dumbledore was growing old, try as he might to deny it.

He had to begin his preparations, even now. The first was a nasty piece of magic, the very darkest, but the spell was found and Caradoc was willing. The last element required was sleeping in a cradle in the Burrow, barely two weeks old.

He heard a gasp behind him; Molly. “I need to tell you about something called a Horcrux,” Dumbledore said without turning. “And then I have a request, involving your son.”

I'd never even thought of this idea before and now to see it fleshed out is really awesome! Always knew Dumbledore had a well of darkness in him.
