With thanks and birthday greetings to the Sorting Cat, whose inability to count to a hundred was an inspiration.
recipient: into_desire prompt: Hermione explains why the Express runs from nine and three-quarters, but she's wrong. word count: 100 precisely warnings: no sex, no death, some string theory

If reading in their tent by wandlight helped Hermione escape from the realities of battle, what harm was it?
She brandished The Elegant Universe: "It says that Muggles discovered eleven dimensions - maybe twenty-three!"
"So?" Ginny mumbled.
"The implications are huge! Just for starters, this must explain how Apparating really works. And why we use platform Nine and Three-Quarters. 9.75 corresponds to -"
Ginny interrupted. "Oh, no, Mum told me why. When they made it, everyone figured the first-years couldn't count up to ten."
"But - "

I love this so much!
I couldn't wait to see what someone would come up with for this prompt. This is so much cleverer than anything I imagined. Congratulations on writing the first-ever HP/Quantum Physics crossover... And somehow in just a few lines of dialogue you captured Hermione, Ginny, and the wizarding world's zany logic just perfectly.

Thank you!
I just looked at your journal (and read some of your other drabbles) and found it extremely interesting, so I've friended you. :) I always enjoy the people journalling about teaching and universities, so I'd like to be on that filter, as mentioned in your profile, if you want to friend me back of course. (This incarnation of my journal is pretty new.)
