'It's been two weeks.'

Aberforth stepped closer and squinted. The smooth, even brush strokes undulated almost imperceptibly with his brother's every breath. The familiar face, so like his own, seemed younger now, less deeply lined, and Aberforth realised he could not count how many years had passed since he had seen Albus looking so completely untroubled.

'It doesn't usually take this long,' Minerva continued. 'Headmaster Dippet was awake within hours-'

'Dippet died a quiet death, in much quieter times, Minerva.'

The Headmistress nodded curtly. 'Of course.' She turned away from the portrait. 'There's just so much to do. The school, the Order, the Ministry ... and then there's Potter. I don't know howAlbus did it.'

'Oh, I thought you of all people would know,' Aberforth said as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small round tin. 'Lemon drop?'

I really like this; we always think of Minerva as the natural new-leader, but tend to overlook how hard she must have found it. Well done.

Thank you! I think it will be a difficult transition for her - because Dumbledore is a tough act to follow. So glad you liked this.

Ah! This somehow resonates with canonicity, even though it's not a scene we'd ever get. Aberforth has the perfect Dumbledore-esque tone. Love it!

Oh, thank you for that. I definitely wanted Aberforth to seem to possess some of that Dumbledore quirkiness and insight.

Very late replying, but thanks so much for your comment. Yeah, I think Lemon Drops are a big part of the Dumbledore family secret. :)

Oh yay. I got sidetracked by school and am just now wandering out of the haze and debris! Thanks.

I really like the mood you've set here. :D

LOL. No worries; I've been in a haze of my own for the past two months or so.

Really glad you liked this. It was fun to write. Thanks for a great prompt. :)
