I LOVE 'Make Room'! 'Kiss The Ring' had people talking about it for so long, I kind of expected something more. I still like it, just it's not really a standout to me. I'm surprised it's not AHMAAAAAAZING.
Oh man, I LOVE Kiss the Ring. Like, I don't have a whole lot to SAY about it, I just REALLY LOVE IT.
And Make Room!!!! is GREAT, but it feels like a Frankensong to me (and not just because of the Na Na Na lyric, although that's pretty major obviously). The thing that sticks out to me the most about the whole song is HOW DIFFERENT the sentiment of "Everybody wants to change the world/but no one wants to die" is without the final resolution and rejoinder of "Wanna TRY WANNA TRY WANNA TRY WANNA TRY WANNA TRY NOW! I'LL BE YOUR DETONATOR!" Like. THAT'S my band. Those are my fuckers. I really like Make Room!!!! a LOT, but I can't get past that.
I would also kill to see them do Kiss the Ring live. That would be amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing.
Kiss The Ring sounds almost identical to the way it sounded at The Roxy in 2009, which is really cool! I love Make Room!!!!, but wow, yeah, I love even more the bits they took from it to make a few of the songs in DD.
I think especially with CW4, maybe because of Make Room!!!! specifically, it is the most clear why they scrapped this album. I get why every single person who got an early listen and reviewed said it was going to be the best rock album of 2009 (and then 2010 when it didn't get released). The songs are really incredible! But they're all so... singular. There's nothing cohesive about them at all. And a cohesive album, something that tells a story, is the ESSENCE of MCR, and it makes so much sense that they said NO and started over. It's also really fucking incredible that they did do that. I'm glad they're releasing them though, because seriously, GREAT SONGS! I can't wait for the last set... and then NEW NEW music after that (get back to LA, Frank, come on).
I totally agree - these are all great songs, and I'm sure that they would have figured out SOME way to put them all together so that it felt more cohesive than they do released like this, but it wouldn't have had the solid ALBUM feel that all of their records do, including Bullets. And seriously I am so fucking proud of them for being BRAVE enough to make that decision. Fucking amazing.
Yes definitely. And lol yeah, Bullets is definitely not as tight as a narrative like the subsequent three albums, but it still tied together a lot more than these songs have so far (and I don't think 2 more will change that at all). Yes, SO FUCKING BRAVE. Ugh I love them and how much their art means to them, which makes me feel less silly (if I was inclined to feel silly about it in the first place) about how much it means to ME.
Lol, I'm always saying, "Fraaaank, come onnnn, go back to LA!" too. xD It's like we know when he does, it'll most probably mean something new in the making and gaaaaaaah. Want.
And I agree. Now hearing these songs, part of me goes "WHYYYY?" because they're great (and as much as I loved Danger Days, gotta admit these are most my thing). So the only reason I can think for them starting all over, is that the songs were, like you said, too singular. And that didn't feel like them, like what they're used to putting out. I'm still fucking glad they've decided to release them 'cause daaamn, boys. They're GOOD.
Oh thanks for this 'cause I can't make out almost anything! xD Interesting lyrics. Like you said on Twitter, sounds about zombies or something like that (even if metaphorically).
