I live in the Information Age, Rachel thought bitterly as she pulled another book off the shelf. So why on earth am I not allowed to use the internet as a source? She was never that interested in research papers in the first place, but not even being allowed to use Google to ( Read more... )

Lucil wandered down a row of non-fiction, eyes flicking to and from book titles as she searched for what she needed. "Hmmph. This is a library right? Why is their stock such crap? I'll never find more than these two books on Japan, let alone Geishas." The blonde grumbled to herself while her right arm adjusted to hold the two historical texts in a more comfortable manner. She usually liked reading for papers but it helped when the teacher allowed the books to be from other places that weren't McKinley's own library. Not only was it infamous for a lack luster football team but for having one of the smallest libraries of the district. Most likely thanks to the budget issues and the Cheerios' usage of most of said budget.

With a roll of her eyes, Lucil moved from her aisle towards the fiction section of the tiny library. Perhaps Memoirs of a Geisha would be available, that's something in any case. The girl stood before the alphabetised section of "M" only to find that, indeed, the administration hated her. She groaned frustratedly.

Rachel heard a low groan and a few muttered sentences and stopped her writing immediately, slowly looking up to see if she could get a good look at whoever it was. She had cleaned out the library's stock, after all; there was a good chance some other European history student had come here to do the exact same thing she did, and Rachel had no doubt that the vast majority of the school population would have no qualms with simply taking the books.

As covertly as she could, Rachel slipped a few of the book under the table to balance, out of sight, on her knees, and stuffed another into her already tightly-packed bag, leaving just the book she was currently reading out in plain view. She returned to her note-taking, trying not to draw any more attention to herself.

She heard some faint shuffling from a few rows over and raised a brow. Lucil hadn't seen anyone when she'd first come in, maybe someone else was looking for some impossible to find treasures? She should probably tell them this was a hopeless cause and save them the trouble. The girl took the long way around her aisle and another before going down a long row of books that lead to a few of the library's tables. The blonde creeped closer to the end of the row slowly, hoping to simply peek at who was in the room before speaking to them, just in case it was Isreal or some other creeper of the school's population whom she'd rather not associate with ( ... )

Rachel looked up when the other girl spoke and unconsciously slid her hand protectively over the book in front of her. She raised her eyebrows slightly when the girl asked if she could sit near her. Wasn't this library big enough that she didn't have to deal with other people getting in her way while she tried to work? "Go ahead," Rachel said, returning to her notes and finishing the sentence she had been in the middle of before being interrupted.

When it came right down to it, Charlotte was bored. It never sat well with her to wait around for things, and a weekly family dinner with her uncles and her cousin was really no exception. After vocal lessons, she wasn't in much of a mood to do any sort of homework, though she knew she could be working on her assignment for history and possibly finding a new monologue for auditions. It just wasn't appealing ( ... )

Rachel looked up in irritation at the interruption, prepared to snap at whoever had dared to interrupt her. She softened slightly when she saw that it was Charlotte -- but not that much. "I'm working on my history assignment, obviously," she said shortly, turning back to her homework resolutely. "And as our teacher has decided to revert back to the time of the Luddites, I am stuck here. And I would appreciate it if you didn't interrupt me, considering that I'm not sure how much longer the librarian is going to let me stay here and I would really prefer to not have to come back."

"What, because going to the county library or taking the books home is sacrilegious?" Charlotte furrowed her brows a little, pulling out a chair and settling herself in it. She wasn't just going to leave.

"It's a little bit of a reach for you to try and get the entire set of research done in one afternoon, Rach."

"I'd rather not have to deal with taking these books in my name if I don't have to," Rachel said, continuing to write. "And I will get all of my research done this afternoon. I don't have that much more to go and I would get it done even faster if people didn't keep bothering me."
