I ran into this problem myself recently and some kind souls pointed out it had to do with all the embedded code in the latest version of Word. Their advice was to convert the document to .html and post it in that mode, rather than Rich Text. It was a bit of a bear for me to do (I don't normally write in .html and I'm rather over-fond of italics) but it allowed me to post the story with the original breaks I'd designed. Hope that helps for the future!
