You know, I only ever watched the first episode of Ripper Street, and never tracked down the rest, but now you make me wonder... is there a slashy vibe there? (That's always a selling point for me. :D )
I think it's a blink-and-you-miss-it vibe, but there is an intensity of feelings between Reid and Jackson which makes me wonder. Reid is such a conflict-torn character, an upright cop who isn't above having suspects tortured, a faithful husband who is attracted by a secular Jewish woman. And Jackson has a murky past, and keeps walking the tightrope between trustworthy ally and untrustworthy schemer. So I catch myself fantasising ways in which they could comfort, and rely on, each other, even if only some of the time.
I love everything of yours that I have read (the Rio Bravo story and the Trapeze analysis stand out, but I repeat, you're a great writer) and would be very happy if you watched more Ripper Street and ended up writing something.
I've been terrible at commenting or replying to your comments, but: it's always great to hear from you when you're around. I wish both your life and mine were easier, but, as you said, things pass, or we get through them.
What you said about not always commenting, but always being interested, goes both ways. And since I have opened lj, I will go back and try to find your King Rat story, and maybe go further back to look for more of your writing.
