In "celebration" of Obama's election victory.

So I did make a panic buy in the wake of the Obama election. I purchase half a dozen 30rd AR-15 magazines. I am also going to buy at least one more AR-15 lower receiver between now and the inauguration. My brother plans to do the same. Figure if I have the lowers in hand we can build them up later at our leisure and as funds and time allow.

Good choice. He's going to put that assault weapons ban back in pretty quickly. I thought about running out and buying a couple of large-capacity SKS magazines, gambling on that being the rifle I end up buying, but I think 10-round mags will suit me fine, so I decided against it.

If your right that Obama is going to put a ban in place then think of magazines above 10rds as an investment. A 30rd AR magazine now is $10-$15 if Obama gets his way then suddenly your $10 magazine is a $50-$100 magazine. Assuming he grandfathers in existing magazine and does not ban them outright.

I truly hope you are wrong though. I hope the economy and the war keep him busy enough that he never gets a chance to stomp on our Second Amendment rights. The last AWB had little discernible effect on firearm crime with its inception or sunset. I don't think Obama's version will be any more or less effective.

I hadn't thought of the investment angle. That makes it doubly tempting.

But is this like the Death of Superman comic, where everyone is buying in expectation of value increase, and therefore it doesn't happen? Eh, probably not. I'll bet you're right.
