New version of the XD from Springfield Armory

Springfield Armory is slated to release a new version of the XD-40 at May's NRA show. On SA website the is a link in the lower right corner call "What is the (M) factor?"

There were pictures on Glock-Talk late last night and I fail to grab copies. They were pulled by this morning. It sort of looks like an old XD-40 mated with a S&W M&P-40 and the bastard child resulted in this new XD. The big things other than the cosmetic changes is that it will have grip inserts like the M&P to allow you to change grip size to match your hand size (the (M) factor?) and it will finally use real 40S&W width magazines. The old XD-40 was a retrofit of the XD-9 and thus was stuffing 40S&W rounds into a magazine that was to narrow.

This resulted in reduced magazine capacity, 12rds compared to most 40S&W guns that hold 14-15rds. The new XD-40 will hold 16rds. This finally makes it possible to have an XD-40 that will be competitive in USPSA Limited division. The addition of magazine extension that give 140mm magazine should easily hold 18rds and likely we'll be able to get 19 or 20rds in there.

Now I just have to figure out how to afford one with the Little Miss on the way. I might have to sell my XD-40 Service to get one of these to try out.
