I really need to buy the digital converter thingie for my TV so I can watch episodes as they air, instead of waiting and downloading it. I keep ending up getting out of bed early on Friday mornings to watch what everyone else watched last night. So yes, here is my reaction, fresh as always!
(
In short, I liked it, but didn't squee very much )

I actually don't mind that. I think Dean reined himself back. And, frankly, Sam kind of deserved it. He tries to tell himself he's lying to protect Dean, or as if it somehow makes him less freakish if he doesn't say it out loud. Sometimes he needs something to hit him in the face. Okay, maybe not quite so literally.
The parallels were good, but a little anvilicious at times. American TV can't be subtle, I guess, but I wish it could.
I wish someone would recommend them to lay off the Parallel Hammer a bit. I'm all for a good parallel, but if every hunt has some deeper personal meaning attached to it, it's gonna get old.

Yes, yes, this. SHOW SOME RESTRAINT, GUYS. Less is more, and more is too much.

Oh, and I cringed because I could almost literally hear the clatter of fangirly keyboards frantically typing "Cas" in their latest fic/icon/[insert medium of choice here]. Heh. It did strike me as odd, though. It's not like Castiel is a terribly long name, nor is it like he and Dean are the bestest of buds.

It's less about the fact that Show used a parallel.... but more that it's a parallel that we've seen countless times already. That's what gets annoying.
I didn't mind Dean punching Sam. I mean, it's extreme... but so was what Sam did. It was a huge betrayal. And after the second punch, Dean dropped his bag, almost like he was waiting for Sam to fight back. (The punch in "Bloodlust" was a little more uncalled for, at least compared to this one, methinks.)

True dat, about the repetition of the SAME parallel. I like parallels. But Sam has been compared to the MotW many, many times, and it never ends up going all that well.
I didn't MIND Dean punching Sam, really. It was called for and made sense. It just made me go ouch.

Dean's reaction to the secrets broke my heart and Sam looked so desolate to have been found with his hand in the cookie jar

And yes, that scene in the motel was so intense.

very nice that was to have the confrontation early!

YES.
I agree, the not knowing exactly what has been going on between Sam and Ruby is unpleasant. Sure, the demon theyr were exorcising could have just been making stuff up to throw in their faces, but it's alarming to think he might not be. Ick.
