The New Chef
We have a new chef at our hospice house. She seems nice enough. Interestingly, she hasn't yet come to realize I have no power or authority, so she keeps bringing her new issues to me, as if I can fix them. I could fix most of them but the director doesn't trust me to make decisions, so I keep having to refer her to our mutual boss.

Book 'Em
There are snowflakes in the air today, but I'm thinking ahead to July and our big Library Book Sale on Independence Day. My co-chair and I had a meeting with the library director yesterday... we were a bit alarmed that the library is not just limiting donations, but that the librarians are pushing back against accepting donations. Tuesday Today
It's school vacation week here in VT. Last year we took that fabulous trip to Maine where we stayed at the lovely Billowhouse Inn. This year we're staying home. Well, I'm staying home. Up Dates
I ran into my old boss from my second post-college job today... a person I haven't seen in 18 or so years. We live in the same county, and it's weird our paths haven't crossed since then. For a long time, I chose to remember him as a rather challenging man to work for, with a bad case of LMD (Little Man Disorder) and who once memorably slapped me ( Read more... ) -
Not My Favorite Day
Today I feel lucky to be alive. Not because I've had yet another poignant experience at our hospice house, but because I travelled on the interstate during the morning commute time. I almost never use the interstate, and my drive to work completely bypasses that stretch of highway. Thank goodness, for those interstate people are maniacal! Cutting ( Read more... ) -
This Day
I just met with a 48-year-old woman with ovarian cancer and her sister. The woman came for a tour of our hospice house and wants to move in after she makes a trip across country to say goodbye to some friends. She is five years older than me and has two daughters: ages 22 and 10.
