I finally bought The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy Monday night after much prodding from many f-listers who insisted it would be the most entertaining and informative pregnancy book I bought. I started reading it last night when I went to bed and all I can say is I was in tears from laughing so hard before I even finished reading the foreword. ( Read more... )

I'll be sure and make a note of that just in case I get impregnated by any aliens in the near future :P

Sounds good though. At least it's a laugh.

LOL! The author is really no bullshit and she does actually give you the useful information, but presents it in an entertaining way, as opposed to books like What to Expect When You're Expecting (which I bought also); that one is chock full of all the technicalities but is like reading a textbook...boooooooooring. I've decided it's good for skimming and referencing, but not much else. This one though will be read cover to cover.

Oh yeah, you might be interested in this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/5253602.stm I would say forwarned, but apparently there are people who love her.

Entertaining is always good. It's like Knitting Rules. Entertaining and informative.

*shrug* I love how the opening says parents rarely feel neutral about her - they either love her or loathe her. Me? I'm neutral. If people want to follow her routine, good for them. If people don't want to (like myself), then that's fine too. This is a perfect example of people just waaaaaay over-reacting over something that they can either choose to follow or ignore.

Exactly like Knitting Rules!

That book is fantastic (has just been reading it on Amazon) although now I do worry I might be pregnant as I threw up a few days ago just walking past a place making cinnamon buns. It was so odd.

Apparently she's got a whole bunch of books for different stages of children's lives and such.

Oh, darling, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you start having multiple symptoms, then maybe have a little test.

Psst. It's foreword

Sounds like a great book - fun and yet informative. Who could ask for more?!

Whoops, that's a typo; I promise I know its foreword! You don't even want to know how many times I type things like 'be' for 'me' or 'my' for 'we'. *is retarded*

Hehe, that's such a hilarious book. It's so reassuring, in the sense that it makes you feel not alone in your mood swings and other craziness, although I've had few enough of the more unpleasant symptoms that she describes in such loving detail that I've backed away from the book in the last couple months in an attempt to not to give my body ideas. :) I thank god I don't have a husband or mother like hers and found her irritatingly shallow at times and extremely pessimistic about natural childbirth, but overall, she's a great read. :)

It is reassuring! I did pick up on her distaste for natural childbirth almost immediately, so I see that that carries throughout the book. Oh well, each to his own, I suppose.
