Woke up a little sore and stiff, but still fairly functioning. So I think today will be okay and no reason for concern. ^^
Actually, today I think will be spent looking for reference images and sketching. I may be biting off more than I can chew here, but I'm going to try to make a BJD. I've been thinking about it since around the time I stumbled across
Noah's tutorial around 2005, but never acted on it because it looked kind of daunting (as well as living with someone who threatened that if I brought one of those creepy dolls into her house she'd use it for paintball practice). But then I considered I'll happily hand sew dollies and cross stitch and such, and not think anything of it, while other people look at the stuff I've done and go "ZOMG WOH". So, stands to reason the more you do it the better you'd get, right? (Hopefully this makes sense. XD;)
Seeing
batchix's awesome tutorials on the YouTubes yesterday (
here and
here) started me on this train of thought, and then last night I found
this too. So. I'm going to try to emulate a more antique style of doll with simpler joints. Specifically, I'm going to try to make her look like a
traditional ichimatsu ningyo. I found a bunch of pictures of one little lady from the Meiji era; she's going to be my basis. I'm not planning to cast at all, just see if I can finish the project, but maybe if things go well there will be a second...
So, yeah. I'm insane.
*EDIT*
That Meiji girl I was talking about is actually still up on eBay for a little longer,
here. I really do think she's pretty cute, for all that she's clearly been through a lot. And I was just saying to Brendan, I really like her face, even though the width of her pupils are sort of Nightmare Fuel. orz
