MacBook: to buy or not to buy, that is the question.

Dec 19, 2007 15:32

Should I buy a MacBook? Basically for the shiny, but also so I can work/post/faff on public transport/holiday/whatever, and because the dollar is Most Weak. Or are there other 13"-ish notebooks around the same price that are better deals, bang for the buck, etc.?

Poll MacBook: YAY or NAY

EDIT: if you say Nay, you must suggest alternatives. Just 'cause.

I'm probably going to get one sooner or later, exactly that model, and I have to pay for it in dollars.

Roughly one third of notebooks I see in my daily train are macbooks (some running Windows). One day I'll be one of them trendy Mac-commuters when my 3 year old notebook fails :)

They are now so cheap, you should buy one for yourself and one for me.

Or you could get an Eee PC if you just want to be able to do non-intensive stuff on an ickle tiny machine :)

It is tempty, were it not for the fact I pretty much must have Word and a Translation (CAT) tool that integrates well with it for work purposes. And that I do like taking photographs and therefore would want some decent quality screen-action and image editing capacity.

Go for the medium one if you can the slight upgrades are worth it. I am making this post from mine that i got at work and it's been lovely.

My issue with the 15" is that it's quite simply too big; won't fit my tiny backpack, and small (14") laptops are already a tight squeeze in many dutch trains in terms of space to open up the screen. I don't need the power for gaming or video editing, and it remains TOO BIG.

Have a desktop at home, after all. And I figure I'll get the DVI adaptor thing so I can plug the powerbook into the LCD TV for giggles.

Noooo sorry i meant get the middle one of the 13" laptops. There's a low spec white one, a slightly higher spec white one and the black one. The one in the middle the slightly higher spec white one has some nice upgrades for the money.

For some reason i didn't realise the 2.2ghz one you mentioned is the one i meant :) so you've already chosen it. So yeah buy it! buy it now!
