I love the understated but deep fondness which Tatsumi has for Tsuzuki; this prompt was perfect for it.

In his day, when he had lived during the Thirties and Forties, Tatsumi had had to keep his heart well hidden, lest anyone know where his desires ran. Not that he had ever worn his heart on his sleeve, but just because he kept his heart carefully concealed, that did not mean he had forgotten it existed. Too often, something stirred it when it least needed to be awakened. One of those times included the very days was the very day of his death, when he looked up from the pavement in Nagasaki, where he had stood just a moment before the burning flash of light in the sky. His eyes still burned from the detonation, but they quickly started to feel soothed and comforted when he looked up into the face of the shinigami who had appeared at his side to escort him into the spirit world. It seemed that Enma had sent a god with a lovely face to comfort him at this terrible moment.
Ever since then, through the years that followed, Tatsumi had kept that fondness well hidden. Once he and Asato Tsuzuki, the shinigami who had escorted him into Meifu, had started to work together as partners in the field, this grew more difficult for Tatsumi to conceal. Perhaps that was why he tended to be hard on the elder shinigami, partly to keep some distance between them emotionally, and partly to keep his fondness for the violet-eyed fussbudget in check.
But all that lay in the past. Today was different. Today, they were two friends roaming about the city of Kyoto, a city they had visited several times during the few short months they had worked together as partners. Today, they would simply enjoy each other's company: no pressure to solve the case, no burning need to track down the fiend behind the string of murders. Today was a day for Tsuzuki to unwind and enjoy life in the mortal world, a chance for his normally indomitable optimism to recover from the dings it had taken recently, and for his natural joie de vivre to recharge itself. It was that zest for life and that love of the physical world that, along with his boyish good looks, had attracted Tatsumi the most, from the moment they had first met so many decades ago. He wanted, so very much, to take the poor fellow aside, lead him to a room in a discreet love hotel and show him how he felt. Only the fact that Tsuzuki seemed uninterested in anything more than companionship, and the fact that fraternization between a supervisor and a field agent was prohibited kept him from actually acting on this idea.
Tomorrow, they would go back to being supervisor and employee. Tomorrow would be back to the usual routine of Tatsumi giving the orders and Tsuzuki grousing at him for being bossy and mean. Tomorrow, Tatsumi would go back to hiding his heart behind his vest once again. Tomorrow, he would have to go back to being his usual cool blooded self, rather than showing Tsuzuki a small shadow of that part of him that was smitten with the one who had led him across the line...
