I've got Terazuma and Tsuzuki lurking in headspace, and they were kind enough to "tell" me about an incident from their brief partnership...

Prompt: Disagreement
Pairing: mild Terazuma/Tsuzuki love/hateshipping
Word count: 617

In some ways, the new gig was not much different from his job during life. Hajime Terazuma had worked as a homicide detective in Tokyo till the day a take-down had resulted in him taking a hail of bullets for his team. Now that he was working for the Ministry of Hades, he was working much the same job, except instead of examining corpses, he was interviewing ghosts. That felt weird the first time or two, but it quickly started to feel no different than interviewing a witness.

But then came the matter of getting a partner, or rather, the guy whom the chief saddled him with. Supposedly, the guy was one of the most experienced and oldest shinigami in the Judgment Bureau, but considering the fact that shinigami were supposed to work off debts they had left in life, that said a lot about the guy.

He expected a motivated but humdrum suit with a beige personality; he did not expect the kind of guy he met. Asato Tsuzuki came off like a ball of energy, and he was better with the kinder, gentler side of interviews: if they needed a bad cop/good cop set-up, he'd be the perfect good cop.

But when it came to handling the day to day things, like paperwork, Terazuma ended up stuck with the bulk of it: Tsuzuki either messed it up (sometimes physically, given the cupcake papers which often littered his desk) or simply falling asleep on it. In the field he was a clutz: he tripped on things, and ran into closed doors (even though he could phase through them). He would get manic-happy over good things, or bawl his eyes out sad over bad things. It wore on Terazuma's patience, and that was putting it mildly.

But the straw that broke the camel's back was lunchtime, particularly when a case called for a stakeout.

They were on watch for a hungry ghost that had been harassing people in a hotel when it started. Terazuma turned his back for a moment, when Tsuzuki pulled a disappearing act. He wasn't about to leave his post: someone had to do the job they'd been assigned to do, but he was not about to let Tsuzuki get away with this easily.

A moment later, Tsuzuki returned with a sack full of cupcakes from the bakery across the street, noshing on one.

"You tryin' to earn the record for longest time spent working for the Ministry?" Terazuma snarled, lighting his tenth cigarette since they'd gone on watch.

"Uh, what do you mean by that?" Tsuzuki asked, innocently.

"Yah walked away from yer post an' left me keeping watch by m'self," he snapped. "We're supposed to work on this together."

"But I was just ordering lunch," Tsuzuki said, with an innocent whimper.

"We just ate two hours ago, an' now yer eating again. Every time I look at you, yer stuffin' yer face."

"But I got hungry: stakeouts always make me hungry. Hey, you want some? I got plenty."

"I don't need it, and neither do you. Wait till later, when we're havin' dinner."

"I can't wait till then. I'll faint!"

"I'll wake y' up: I'll stick my lighter under yer ear."

Tsuzuki cringed at the idea. "Owwwww!! That'll hurt like hell! You're so mean, Terazuma!"

Terazuma blew a plume of smoke in Tsuzuki's general direction. "I ain't mean, just practical: yer just a wuss, Tsuzuki."

"I am not!"

"Of all the shinigami in all the afterlife, I get stuck with the most anNOYing one," Terazuma snarled.

"WAAAAHHHHH!!!" Tsuzuki wailed. The sadfais he gave Terazuma almost got around his inhibitions, but Terazuma had too much experience standing his ground. Even still, it was hard to be annoyed with a pretty-faced violet-eyed guy with a smudge of chocolate on the corner of his mouth.
