Are they the centrists? I thought progressive and liberal are pretty much synonyms, right?

"Anyhing else than centrist", this would be the better way to phrase it.
Maybe once there were times these people haven driven forward a certain amount of progress in society, but meanwhile they've just turned into a bunch of loony extremists. And "progessive" and "liberal" has more turned into a synonym for "unwordly know-it-alls from American universities who puritanically want to burn everything that doesn't suit their agenda/inner image of the world".

Should sound like something very similar that you know...
In fact, they become barely anything else than that - only this time it's not about putting the alleged "white race" on top of the hierarchy, but giving them the least say in everything - just because of their whiteness and the sins their ancestors did and not because they evidentially have done anything wrong (in the present).
