Miranda cleared her throat politely, and laughed at Shepard’s half startled, half annoyed expression. “You can fuck Liara when we’re through here, but we still have some things to go over.” It did not take someone nearly as smart as Miranda to know what the Sultana was thinking about, or even who the Sultana was thinking about. Gossip around the palace had only spread the longer Shepard seemed to favor the young asari. No one could remember another girl who had held the Sultana’s interest for so long

She’d done it to herself the day she had accepted the position of Sultana, and Shepard knew she would do it again if she had to go back, even knowing this situation was inevitable

Shepard gave Sha’ira a thankful nod and untied the scroll, scanning the list briefly. She was already familiar with much of the information listed on it, but it was good to have a reference anyway. Besides, this updated version included the new slaves that she had just purchased. A sudden thought struck her, and she read through the scroll a second time, looking for one name in particular. She never found it

Miranda’s eyes lit up at the news that Jack was going to be back for the party. She usually only got to see her lover sporadically when they were rarely at the palace at the same time, or when she was out gathering intelligence and took the time to visit Jack’s post if she was in the area. “Thank you,” Miranda said quietly, suspecting that Shepard had only order Jack to attend for her sake
