Kaidan/M!Shep -- stress relief and meddling EDI anonymous March 12 2012, 22:55:31 UTC
M!Shep has been single all the way through ME1 and ME2, but finally hooks up with Kaidan in ME3. Immediately following their first date, EDI notices a significant reduction in the amount of stress from Shepard's metabolic scans. For the mental health of her Commander, EDI immediately begins encouraging Kaidan to relieve Shepard's stress more often.

How she does this is completely up to Author-Anon. Maybe the elevator will only grant Kaidan access to Shepard's quarters, maybe she contrives emergencies that keep Shepard and Kaidan locked alone in the same room, or maybe she tampers with Kaidan's omnitool so that his daily schedule has a dedicated "Attend to Shepard" timeslot... Anything EDI can think of, really!

(Bonus points if Kaidan actually takes advantage of EDI's meddling instead of just getting adorkably embarrassed.)

This is almost my headcanon. I can't promise anything, not fast anyway, but I am going to try to write something for this because matchmaker EDI is the best.

Well this appears to be promising to be long. I may be getting carried awayThe sign that informs EDI of Shepard's affection for Major Alenko is biological. Shepard's metabolic stress levels spike sharply when the major is injured on Mars and lower when Shepard receives emails from him. This data corroborates with the increased frequency with which they visit the Citadel and Shepard arranges for transportation to Huerta Memorial. Furthermore, Shepard tends to engage in what EDI's research shows to be unconscious flirtation when speaking with Major Alenko. Extrapolation upon current resources seems to imply that the action is reciprocated. EDI considers these results, but does not bring the subject to either Jeff or Shepard. Evidence suggests that speculation without further data would negatively affect Shepard's behavior and stress levels ( ... )

EDI incorporates this data into her analysis, and after cross comparing the results with her research EDI can only conclude that being in a relationship with Major Alenko not only makes Shepard happy, but is necessary for assuring his continued well-being and mental stability. It would be in Shepard's best interest to ensure stability of this relationship, and by extension could increase crew morale and probability of success for their mission. Research on human courtship suggests fulfilling the role of 'matchmaker' in order to facilitate relationship success. Unfortunately, her data on how to fulfill such a role is limited to fictional accounts and previous experience has shown that acting using such data is unwise ( ... )

THIS FILL IS PERFECT. I'm giggling already! I really love how you've written EDI's careful analysis of all the "data" and patterns, and how it makes sense that she would want to "ensure the stability of this relationship." I love that Joker noticed Shepard's pining and I love that Shepard became more relaxed and jovial after finally getting Kaidan to notice him! IT'S ALL SO GOOD! I can't wait for more!

Plus, this line:

She smiles at him. He is, to her best approximations, endearing.

ICING ON THE CAKE. LOVE IT. Please write more!

I love how your writing is so in-synch to EDI's thought process. I could basically hear her voice while reading each line.

I'd love to read more on how EDI will play the matchmaker; it'll probably be funny and endearing at the same time.

Oh my god, your EDI is PERFECT. I am giggling so much, I love how you've detailed her processes of observation and analysis - it's just beautiful.

Pinned! I'll be watching this avidly :)

Sorry this part took so long to get out, but there was RL, and it just kept getting longer and then when I'd finally finished it I needed to make massive revisions to some sections. I hope people are still interested in this. I'll try to update sooner next time! Enjoy! I definitely did not just anon!fail there. No, you can't prove it. No one saw meTwo night cycles later, Kaidan's schedule acquires several appointments he doesn't remember making. They aren't even appointments so much as a suspiciously detailed account of John's schedule and habits with free time and possible interception points marked in bold red letters. There are depressingly few of them ( ... )

"Yeah? Any idea who sent them?" Kaidan's not sure if he should have thought of getting a requisition in to Cortez to get a gift delivered to the Normandy. It's a sweet idea in theory, but tricky what with the reapers and-besides, John doesn't really seem like the candy-and-flowers-type of guy. He's usually more of a lift-grenades-and-sniper-rifle-accessories sort of guy. Sometimes he's even an I-can-kill-you-with-my-brain-isn't-that-neat sort of guy ( ... )

He doesn't think-well, he knows he could get through this without his relationship with Kaidan the same way he got through Saren and the collectors, it's just-Everything's a little easier with Kaidan. With Kaidan there's someone to help John remember that there is more in the galaxy than wars that are older than any of them. Kaidan gives him something of his own to hope for, a peace of future to walk toward ( ... )

He examines the scans, and EDI cannot categorize his expression. Her analysis of it is inconclusive. In most cases, EDI would be anticipating her programming engaging a positive feedback loop at the prospect of finding something new about Jeff, but the idea that she may have upset him is, to her approximations, unsettling ( ... )
