Feb 01, 2012 18:57

I've only peripherally been reading about the new novel coming out. Truth be told, I was disheartened with the last novel and lost interest. However, from what I'm reading, it seems that the new novel is...well, bad? As in really, really bad ( Read more... )

Personally, this has been my favorite response to it:

An Open Letter Regarding Mass Effect: Deception, from the Mass Effect Wikia.

Yes, that is a well written response. And, again, I'm surprised at the near-similarity in this review compared to reviews I've read of Halo: Glasslands...

Yeah, it seems like the author pretty much phoned it in.

There's some discussion about it a little further down the page:

I haven't read it yet (and I'm not sure I will be, after all this) but my biggest issue isn't necessarily the continuity issues, but the fact that Gillian's autism is apparently written off as having been "just a phase". Not cool.

Also, a character's sexuality makes a 180...

The article also linked to a video of someone actually burning the book.

Prophetic comment is prophetic. Achievement Unlocked!

Probably!

It's the song the person chose that irritates me the most, though. It pushes the video from being borderline immature, to full-on immature.

No probably about it. Is an amazingly shallow and pointless thing to do. Akin to the stomping of a petulant child that gives fandom a bad name.

I recognize the author, William C. Dietz, as the having written a majority of the Halo novels

Actually Dietz wrote only one of the Halo novels, The Flood. Eric Nylund was the authour of most of the novels. (Including Halsey's diary in Halo: Reach.)

-- Steve will reserve comment on Deception as he hasn't picked it up yet, but finds Dietz's work to be rather hit or miss; some is great but other less so.
