Fandom: Battlestar Galactica Summary: Kara sleeps with Laura instead of Baltar the night of the Colonial Day celebration. Beta: fragrantwoods ( Chapter Four )
I love the tentative reconnection here between them. I just love Kara's confusion and longing to have some connection to Laura even though she doesn't understand the feeling or the reason for it.
Normally I always feel like ripple effects from tiny things should make a huge change, but in this case, things sort of worked out in roughly the same way. Bigger wakes would definitely have been made later in the storyline...
I never realized how alike they are in this moment, both of them trying to stay strong strong while wondering if they'll ever manage to save their people.
This is just... stunning and beautiful, and it draws wonderfully and powerfully on the less obvious parallels between them with the reminders that what they want and what they can actually do despite/because of their wants are drastically different things - and they lose so much in the process of fulfilling promises. There are so many promises between them, but something I find almost bittersweet and touching is that most of their promises are for and to others - other people, other loved ones and friends, and there's just that one tenuous connection and bond between them - the memory of their touch and warmth and laughter that night. That is literally the only promise that's actually between the two of them, and it's amazingly, heartbreakingly beautiful.
