I had almost forgotten this...thank you for the reminder :D
Although I usually do my exercise as soon as I get up in the morning (I have an AM Yoga dvd that really helps get me going for the day), and walk weather-permitting.
I didn't do all that well during the holidays though...the kids being home has really put a crimp in the exercising. I need to get my routine back.
I was told by an MD---long time ago---to NOT exercise just after a meal because the body is focused on the digestion process. Don't know how valid that is, but I've always exercised before eating and felt that it counted.
For what it's worth, none of this is true for me. If I eat before or after exercise, it's all the same. Too much food and I gain weight, less food in high quality and lots of exercise and I lose back down.
The only odd thing I've noticed empirically is that I get really really hungry from SCUBA, even though there's not much exercise involved. I think the water sucks a lot of heat out of me, that's my explanation.

I'm also willing to bet that your exercising-a-lot-for-years body handles calories differently than my newly-being-active body.
