The Day From Hell - Mayhem in Bellingham

Aug 10, 2008 20:23

Bellingham, Washington. A small city, considered liberal in atmosphere, nicknamed the "City of Subdued Excitement." It was so subdued, in fact, that they didn't even have their city nickname written down anywhere. It was ironically located right near a small town called Lynden, which had a public climate that was almost the exact opposite ( Read more... )

The Blackbird had its limits. Cyclops was pushing them, and then some. If they went any faster, the plane might tear itself apart.

He didn't care.

His whole body was tense. He spoke to no one.

He wanted to get there now. They had to hurry. Because if they didn't...

He could spot Bellingham fast approaching. It was hard to miss that much smoke billowing up.

He let out a quiet sound of anger and frustration. The one thing he was trying to avoid had come to pass. The X-Men were already far too late.

"Spread out," he ordered, finally breaking his silence. "We need to get this under control now."

"This is wrong," Colossus growls as he follows the order.

Wrong in so many ways.

It had all started so suddenly for them. These mutants, who had lived here in relative peace for so long, attacked people they called friends and neighbors, and in some even more tragic instances, family as well.

They were still going strong, driven into a frenzy, attacking humans without reason, without remorse, and without restraint.

But humanity was not without its defenders.

The Purifiers were there, armed to the teeth, and were cutting down the rabid mutants without the slightest bit of hesitation. They attacked with the same level of ferocity as the mutants they were fighting, driven onward by a righteous indignation.

These mutants have been exposed for the tools of satan that they are. Tis be thy Lord's will that they be cleansed from this earth. No matter what the cost, thy will be done.

A group of cops in riot gear were trying to fend off attack from a group of mutants. Tear gas was thick in the air, and shots were being fired.

The gas hardly slowed them down. The bullets bounced off of a couple of them.

They kept advancing and attacking. Relentless in their assault.

The advancing mutants were stopped in their tracks thanks to a force field of psionic energy that was coming from one Rachel Summers. Her plan was two-fold, to protect the mutants and protect the cops with a secondary force field. She's an Omega-level mutant, she doesn't need the Phoenix Force to be effective in battle.

That's when she tries to peer into the mind of one of the gone-crazy mutants. Maybe she can calm them down telepathically and in mass?

Maybe, but that would prove difficult.

Their minds were a chaotic, rabid mess. It was as if someone had mixture of pure caffeine and LSD that they were feeding straight into their brains.

They didn't know what they were doing. They didn't even know who they were anymore.

All they knew was an insatiable desire to kill humans... a burning need to kill anyone not like them... and they were pounding away relentlessly at her forcefield in an attempt at satisfying that need.

"In the name of my Lord and savior, die you miserable freaks!"

The Purifiers were opening fire on a group of mutants. Their weapons were the very best in high tech weaponry, beyond anything the local authorities had, and those weapons were being used to litter the ground with mutant corpses.

Lorna hadn't a chance as of yet to really see how much of a difference her training with Magneto had made. The magnetic force bubble she made stopped both bullets and most energy weapons as well. And was so much easier than she remembered it being.

Lorna pushed aside her upset stomach and allowed herself to focus on something else. What was going on right in front of her. For those who could see her face, Lorna did not look happy at all.

Come and dance with the Mistress of Magnetism.

Any metal weapons will be leaving hands and flying into the distance right... about...

Now.

Well, there went the older weapons. The knives, the .9mm sidearms, the grenades... and quite a few of them got launched.

The newer, high tech stuff, though? Most of that was encased in lighter weight plastics. And some of those guns were being aimed at Polaris.

"Shit! More muties! Take'm down, men! Take these fuckers down!"

The metal from the cars around (without people in them) and from the weapons she already stole made her one nice, thick metal ball for her shield. She didn't need eyes to see, when she pushed she could see everything on the electromagnetic spectrum. And, in a city, there's plenty of metal.

Now was the time to put all of that studying with 'Daddy' to use. Pipes under the streets starting breaking through the surface. Metal light poles and signs started to bend in her direction.

St. Joseph's Hospital marvel_citizens August 18 2008, 18:39:54 UTC
By some minor miracle, St. Joseph's hospital was spared from the initial wave of the onslaught. Other hospitals in the area were either too damaged to take on any of the casualties, or too embroiled in the battle for it to be reasonably safe.

BPD, with the aid of the Purifiers, had established a line of defense, with the perimeter encircling a few blocks. Injuries were being ferried in from all over, and the hospital was far, far beyond capacity, with many of the wounded being forced to be treated out on the streets. The staff was stretched thin. They could use all the help they could get.

Having had the foresight to pack civilian garb, Cecilia rushed up the streets towards the hospital. Should be easy enough to pass herself off as a tourist with bad timing, right?

She burst through one of the entrances, cornering the nearest triage nurse. "I'm a doctor, where do I wash up, and where do you want me?"

Though not technically an MD, Hank was close enough to a doctor to count. He'd been patching up mutants for a great many years before having made Cecilia's acquaintanceship.

He was also bright enough to have packed an image inducer on this trip, giving him an image not unlike that which he once sported before he decided to let his hair grow.

So it was that he accompanied Cecilia for this adventure. As much as he'd rather be busting heads... he knew where he was needing. "The lady speaks for me as well."

Patients were everywhere, and arriving by the dozen. There weren't even enough ambulances available, people who could were shoving the injured into the back of their cars and driving down.

No one was exempt from the carnage. Men, women, and children of all ages and backgrounds lined the halls, suffering from various degrees of trauma.

Strangely, or perhaps not, given the circumstances, there were no mutants around.

The hospital staff wasn't going to argue with getting a couple extra pairs of hands.

They had purchased him on the black market. No one knew his name. No one there cared to know.

He was a mutate, smuggled out of Genosha during Magneto's takeover of the nation. And now, he was their weapon.

His powers, amplified a hundred fold, were being used to drive the mutants insane. The unspeakable pain he suffered was his cost of doing so. What was left of his mind was slipping away, and who knew how long he could hold on.

"Keep and eye on its blood pressure and heart rate," Stryker's 'silent partner' order his team. "We paid good money for this mutate, I want it to last more than one use."

Stryker considered this, and then his partner in crime shook his head and he shook his own head.

"They have telepaths. They can likely shield them and the strain could kill it. As he said, we need to make it last. No, let them wallow in the devastation, powerless to stop it. They will be dealt with soon enough."
