Moving on up to the east side...

It was time for the Cornfed Legion Guthrie family to move out. Apartment was found. Insurance money--after MUCH haggling and threatening with lawyers--was acquired, deed to the land and remaining farm equipment that hadn't be trashed was sold, and she already had the builders moving in on the new land and building (bless her Sam for what he'd done ( Read more... )

Paige knew this meant continuing to play the mother hen for the siblings who were staying behind. It made her feel a bit queasy in her stomach in one sense. The selfish thought she was no longer special among her siblings had diminished during the past year or two, but the idea of sharing a roof with them gave her a unpleasant feeling. But family was family.

She glanced over at Jay, and gave him a smile. She notice he seemed a bit twitchy in his silence and not the calm that he usually had.

It was a serious tone, so it had to be a serious subject.

"Susie, sweetheart, you want to go play for a bit? This is probably going to be boring grown up talk. Stay in the tv room and don't wander off though."

"Grown up talk is boring," Sue Ann said, wandering off to the tv room. Lucy was the one that loved to listen in on grown up secrets, but to her it was all "Blah blah blah."

Lucy was nowhere to be found. And if she had her way, neither would Lewis.

They were not going to be separated. Nope. Not at all. Not if she had anything to say about. She was going to take him and bubble up and no one was going to be able to make her stop it.

No matter what.

She just had to find Lewis first. And then... there were tons of places she could hide here! And they'd have to find them first.

Lewis, meanwhile, was making sure that everything was packed away for the move. He didn't want to leave, true, but it was best to do what Momma wanted. Besides, he wasn't special the same way Lucy and Jay and the kids here were. And this was a school specially for them.

So he dawdled at making sure his few things were ready to go, fiddling with bits of extra wire that he'd picked up somewhere. Should he take them with? Should he leave them behind? Very important decision. Might take hours.

It might take hours indeed, but here was Lucy. She came up and took him by the arm, "Come on," she said tugging on him, "We're leavin'. Or hidin', or somethin'."

But they weren't going to be seperated.

"Hiding?" Usually he would have some objection, being the twin least likely to get into trouble, but leaving Lucy behind was the hardest part of all this. He put the wires down.

"Okay."

Johnny had been headed down to get in some extra practice hours in the Danger Room when he found it already in use. Curious about what sim was being run, he headed to the control room, only to find the systems locked in and... THEM ( ... )

Johnny gestured emphatically when he didn't get cooperation right away.

"The one with bubbles, and the one that fixes things. In the Danger Room. Locked shut. Giant evil bug things. GO BREAK THE DAMN DOOR DOWN!!" He tried to get Sam moving again.

Somewhere in Johnny's hindbrain there was a momentary cognition of 'Woah, she's hot.'

And Paige just flew out of that room to the Danger Room.

"One... two... three!" Lucy squeaked and dropped the bubble and started running full tilt with Lewis towards the hill. She thought she had heard water down there and bugs hated water. Right? RIGHT?!

"We gotta run right now, Lewis!" she said, even though they were both already running. If she had to, she'd bubble again real fast...

Lewis raced with his sister, bolting as fast as he could toward wherever Lucy seemed to think safety might be. "Ah hope you know where we're goin'!"

The hated bubble gone, both bugs buzzed through the air like helicopters, one after each kid. Both Brood had their stingers ready and chittered loudly in anticipation.

Paige was used to the controls of the Danger Room. The Danger Grotto loaned itself well to its predecessors controls. It wouldn't shut off. Paige pressed her lips together. More than likely she should have waited for Sam. But there wasn't enough time.

Her fingers dug into the skin and Paige tore it away, her body now now gleaming. She was currently made of the hardest substance on Earth. Paige took a step back and a deep breath and ran to the window of the control room. Her adamantium body plummeted into the holographic room. She'll yell at the brats later. She took one cool look at the brood and then ran for the one after Lewis.
