It was time for the Cornfed Legion Guthrie family to move out. Apartment was found. Insurance money--after MUCH haggling and threatening with lawyers--was acquired, deed to the land and remaining farm equipment that hadn't be trashed was sold, and she already had the builders moving in on the new land and building (bless her Sam for what he'd done ( Read more... )

Paige knew this meant continuing to play the mother hen for the siblings who were staying behind. It made her feel a bit queasy in her stomach in one sense. The selfish thought she was no longer special among her siblings had diminished during the past year or two, but the idea of sharing a roof with them gave her a unpleasant feeling. But family was family.

She glanced over at Jay, and gave him a smile. She notice he seemed a bit twitchy in his silence and not the calm that he usually had.

It was a serious tone, so it had to be a serious subject.

"Susie, sweetheart, you want to go play for a bit? This is probably going to be boring grown up talk. Stay in the tv room and don't wander off though."

Sooraya was a lovely girl, and as far as she was concerned, her children could love whoever they wanted--even if they were the same gender, much as that would take some getting used to--without her interfering in their business and her happiness. But him changing himself like this, risking his soul...
