The Darkness Descends.

Piotr Rasputin is on his knees, his fingers crunching into the earth of this island on the Siberian lake he's been abducted to. Near his family home.

He has no family left.

He just watched his last cousin die a horrible death, at the hands of a madman he had once killed already. How selfish is he to think that it is some kind of karma he earned ( Read more... )

Mikhail Rasputin has tired of being himself, a broken man with no hope for regaining his sanity. Thus, he has welcomed the arrival of another powerful mind, believing Grigori's arrival will finally put Mikhail to rest. His quest for this release has come at the price of more of his own family than he would ever care to count.

Mikhail was once a great Russian hero, thought lost while exploring the stars.

Mikhail was once a teacher, training outcast children to become warriors to fight for their very survival.

Now... he is working with the very same man who necessitated those survival lessons in the first place. He is writhing in the pain of the presence and he has to wonder... is it worth it?

For his part, the Pale Man of yesteryear - the man who worked to create the bloodline that he is now destroying side by side with the wishes of the Mad Monk - is a different man than he was then, yet very much the same ( ... )

The anger is in his eyes, but Piotr can't find the strength to lift his arms yet.

Still, he's defiant as he can be.

"I'll consider your death a blessing."

"You arrogant sonofabitch." The speed at which Rogue moves through the air is impressive but she knows she can't kill this man. She's een him hurt worse than she thinks she can hurt him but she will not, WILL NOT, let him kill Piotr.

This man has been a source of so much pain for the men in her life. Fury helps drive her, helps her ignore the pain she's in, ignore the damage she's likely doing to herself as her blow lands. "Ah am so goddamned sick o'yer bullshit. Ah won't let yah touch him."

Piotr is getting desperate. Such horror, and that voice in his head telling him it's all his fault and he does not deserve the life he has.

The Winter Guard is attacking Rogue... under Sinister's control, she will make such short work of them. So he drags his brother to his feet and screams into his face.

"You can stop this, Mikhail! YOU have the power to end this nightmare!"

Mikhail focuses, as a supreme effort. He has much less coherence of thought to bring to bear against the voice of Grigori, now powerful in his mind... nor is he all that inclined to. That, plus Piotr's earlier kick to his face has not left him well off.

"I... am ending all our nightmares, Piotr," he responds, with blood on his teeth. "Our self-torture, Marrow's shell of a life, Rogue's inner madness, Grigori's long, unjust exile from this plane. It is all for the greater good..."

"THAT IS NOT FOR YOU TO DECIDE! You have SLAUGHTERED YOUR OWN FAMILY!"

Piotr tosses his brother aside in frustration, feeling a panic of his own set in. Rogue - how can he save her? - subjugated to Sinister's will, destroying the Winter Guard... the Marauders having regrouped and are now descending on Katya and Sarah... perhaps the three of them will be able to reach Rogue, but he has to end all those Marauders first -

"Not so fast, X-Man."

The massive green hand of the Abomination grabs Colossus by the shoulder, and his right fist comes crashing down into his face, driving him backwards into the very earth, cracking it underfoot.

Riptide is still feeling the adrenaline rush from killing the Russkie's cousin... and he's hoping to get another high off of killing the little girl he's fancied for so long.

The Marauders have closed ranks, and are set to kill both Shadowcat and Marrow...

Harpoon is stalking the phaser, wondering if he can charge his weapon with energies that would disrupt her power...

... and Arclight is looking to find her shots as well.

They'll have to get in line for Kitty, as she has another engagement.

Rogue streaks across the feild toward the other woman. For a few moments her eyes bleed to green as she struggles to control her own body before being shoved back into the background, pulling her fist back for a punch.

Harpoon just threw one of his weapons at Marrow... when suddenly, his head explodes, and his body falls to the ground.

Riptide is hurling high-velocity blades at the Morlock as well... when suddenly his throat bursts, and he gags horribly, falling to his knees... then slumping face-first into the dirt.

Arclight only gets the chance to turn her head, looking around for what the hell just happened, when suddenly there's a splurt of her eyeball that blows out the back of her head.

She drops hard.

A two meter tall scrubby tree rustles in a nonexistant wind. If one looks close, it almost seems like a dryad is pushing forth from the surface of the wood.

Raven reloads.

The Abomination's knee-jerk tossing of Colossus into the lake is unfortunate, but the fool will be back soon enough to try an idiot rescue of his friends.

This leaves him the opportunity to go after the ugly little Marrow, who was only saved from him by the Angel's stupid, hollow little pep talk about how even ugly is pretty on the inside.

The Marauders are down, but so are the Soviets - he might go crush them while unconscious a bit later, but first to deal with the living.

Sinister, meanwhile, steps forward, past the form of Mikhail Rasputin, still on his knees.

Controlling Rogue's chaos takes some effort, but it will not keep him from mentally challening little Miss Pryde. Even in her phased form, she is not invulnerable to telepathic assault... so he creates an image in her mind of idyllic peace, in the midst of pitch darkness. There is nothing to see, nothing can be seen.

Meditation.
