Somewhere in Latveria, sneaking through the streets, is a great deal of sand. It sticks to the shadows, and stays a light coating on the ground. It avoids direct contact with anyone who passes through the streets ( Read more... )

This is no more comfortable for Amy Chen. Chen, by nature, is a very private person. She likes no one knowing anything about her and now... now everything about her is laid bare to these two men. The first fiew minutes of it, she spent trying to gather herself back together, trying to close herself off from the other two.

The years of slavery, the abuse... The years as a bar girl while also becoming a better and better assassin. The years as an assassin and Maria, Roberta, Shiela, and Sophia...

M'Lady.

All of this is open to them. And she can't help but hate it.

Paladin, on the other hand, seems to have little concern about the process - perhaps his overwhelming ego has convinced him he has nothing about which to be ashamed.

The sense of his mind that comes through the bond is rather like watching his usual knowing smirk - from the inside, and from the outside. His thoughts are mostly still - focused on the goal, the plan.

The boss. Ms. Sable. Silver.

It was hard work going straight. Few people trusted or believed in him. Grimm did. Spider-Man did. And for that, he'll be thankful to both of them for a long time.

But he owes Silver more.

He couldn't cut it as an Avenger, even a reserve. He tried it, but discovered that he was too hot-headed for it. Or at least, he was back then.

He had no income. No real skills to fall back on. What was an ex-con supposed to do? It was like the world was aimed towards keeping a crook a crook.

And then the boss made him an offer.

He'll never be able to pay off his debt to her for that.

He'll never be able to stop loving her for that.

Chen begins to realize that she's somewhere in between these two. The focus of Paladin on the job and the feelings of Baker... though her's are more firmly locked away.

Some part of her is amused by the idea that they could all agree that it was pleasing to look at M'Lady.

Amy had worked for Silver's ex-husband before she joined the Wild Pack. She had not only a job but another offer but another group of people to surround herself with.

As much of a loner as she tends to be, it is not good when she is alone.
