Anyone have any suggestions for good web designers/web design groups? As much as I'd love to, I cannot make my own site as I just don't have the skills needed to make something professional, but I do need a portfolio site and soon ( Read more... )

I don't really know him, so I'll have to find out more about him.

Here's what I posted on one of my message boards about what I'm looking for, along with a list of sites I find pretty for various reasons. Then maybe you can tell me if it's something you think you could do, or if I'm better off looking into other folk. -shrug-

I'm seeking a web designer to help me create a portfolio site for me. I am a costume designer, theatrical makeup artist/designer, and fine arts artist.

I am seeking a non-flash site which will work across all commonly used platforms (IE, Mozilla, Safari, etc.) which will reflect my artistic style while being professional and user-friendly.

I have a list of sites which I find pleasing from design aspects, color-scheme aspects, or usablility aspects, and have a fair idea what I would like to see in my site.

well... i could definitely make you a jennthorton kind of site. her's is just a bunch of pretty gif files and straight-up tables.

i'm not that good at css yet. BUT i think what you are really after, when going to the spiderwick site.. is that you are just a big fan of filligree. this is fine. i'm a big fan of filligree. my 3rd favorite font is Dalliance.

have you been to the Holly Black (the writer for spiderwick) site? blackholly.com? it's also fairly simple and straight-forward. it's pretty, but it gets the job done.

my advice. bradley is better than me. his website is http://adrenachrome.com/
however, bradley is often busy and bradley will probably charge you... but he might not charge you that much since your site would be fairly simple.

again, i charge beer.

hello,
I was sent by the gwenix, I do design work professionally, give me a shout out: sarah@mintpixels.com. You can see my resume at 5arah.com. I fear it is out of date as I am now my own business owner and have done a few sites other than what is there.

Send me a listing of sites that you are interested in, what your target audience is, and what the purpose of your site is.

I like flash sites and all, I just find them impractical for the way search engines work at this point.

Best wishes,
Sarah

"when" is a bit tricky, as you know I'm currently swamped with concerts, and videos and what not.

"What" and "howmuch" then become the question. If you can show be what kind of thing your looking for - and tell me what you can afford, I can tell you if I'm willing to do it for that. ;)

I'm hopefully looking for something under $1000, this summer. Simple, clean, pretty, that reflects the style of work I do (something that looks water-color-y or somesuch in the background could be nice). I can put my content in pretty well myself, I just need to have a site template made for me to put stuff into ( ... )

I agree, the thorton site is lovely. Her designer quoted me at waaaaaay more than I felt was reasonable though.

Personally, I like the idea of a watercolor in the early stages of painting- at least in my style, which means just background texture. I've got an image that has the sort of thing I'm thinking of, which I can give you.

Let me check with my financial situation and my benefactors (aka my mother, gd love the woman she's still helping me out with life- granted my help is low budget, but it's help nonetheless!), and check back in with you. Do you have an email/aim screenname at which I can reach you?
